Why i Hate my Jeep dealer
So I dropped my 08 Jeep off this morning at the dealer for a terrible rattle from the shifter, a leaking freedom top..front and rear..and for an alignment. i dropped it off at 700am this morning..just called them at 100pm, and they didnt know much yet since they just now started on it. they did tell me that the rattle is "ok" that im missing the shifter boot/insulator thats between the body and the tranny. he said that all Jeeps make this rattle. he said i could drive a 09 Jeep and I would hear this rattle...i guess ill have to hotlap one thru town and see if its a "Jeep thing"
I wish Teraflex would buy the Jeep brand when chrysler dies. at least the new models would be built better.

Seems like this might be something that is pretty common in the Chrysler circuit. A bunch of A-holes that dont really give a shit about quality. No wonder Chrysler is bankrupt. I've taken mine to two dealers already for different things. One being a rough idle that is progressively getting worse. Response was "what did you drive before?, all jeeps are like that".
Then he proceeded to tell me that i should bring it in for an oil change every 3000 miles if i want it to last. My reply was "The manual says 6000 miles and I've got a lifetime powertrain warranty".
F'ng sad.

that sounds about right. dont get me wrong, i love my Jeep, but i have to wonder about some of the things theyve done. my wifes 08 commander has been in and out of the shop since we got it. all electrical stuff...and to think the dealer thought i was stupid for wanting hand cranks and manual locks!
its a damn shame the service thats given to our Jeeps via the dealerships. you'd think they would want a better reputation in this department. i cant wait till the next time they tell me its a "Jeep thing". Ill prolly end up in the news paper.

It didn't used to be like this. In my experience the grossly negligent build quality began with the JK (for the wrangler at least). It's when they moved to the new building and the robots took over. Now they build pieces of disposable crap instead of the machines of old. Quite depressing if you love Jeeps like I do. What's incredibly amazing is they know there are issues and they don't make any effort to fix them. Or minimal effort at least.
It is also astonishing to me that they let the dealers operate like criminals. I was told (while being denied warranty work I was qualified to receive) that they can't make the dealer fix it. They are independent. If they say it is ok, they have to believe it. I asked if the dealer said it was ok for the vehicle to randomly shake and shut off in the middle of traffic....would they at least make a statement that this is not how the vehicle is designed. They would not. They don't give a rat's ass about how the dealers ruin their brand.

You got me. Probably because the rates the Jeep pays are less than the non-warranty work that they are busy with. Jeep also underestimates the hours for them.
You would think money is money. I guess they were too busy.
Speculating here..... I think they honestly don't know how to fix it. They tried one time and after going through STAR etc... they gave up. I think they don't want to chase a wild goose.
It's still not fixed. They own all 6 dealerships within an hour and a half. Chrysler told me to take it somewhere else. Guess I'm screwed. The chances of taking it somewhere 1.5 hours away and leaving it for an unknown number of days is close to zero.

sorry to hear about your problems, I have had the opposite, my dealer is great, took the jeep in for an oil change and when i picked it up they informed me that they had ordered a new seat cover for the drivers side, anew clutch assembly because it had a squeak, they want to replace all the tpms because they are corroded (that tells me that they even checked the tire pressures) and lastly they want to repaint my wheels as there is paint flaking off them. this will all be covered under warrenty and make an appointment at my convenience and there will be a loaner vehicle waiting for me. Guess where i'm getting my next jeep.

I'm expecting delivery of my first jeep next week (2-dr Rubicon), I had swore off american cars about 15 years ago after a bad experience with buick. I've been driving a honda for the last 4 years and the local honda dealership has been great, well the sales guy was slimey, but the quality of the car and their service dept has always been first rate. I've wanted a wrangler for years but the quality and reliability ratings I'd find on the web doing research always scared me off.
If my only option to buy a new wrangler was from a dealer here in dayton, oh there is no way I would have bought one. Luckily, my dad is very good friends with a guy that owns a small town chr/jp/dod dealership for over 20 years and they've always gone above and beyond for my parents on their cars... so I'm buying my rubi from them (100mi away). I visit my parents often enough I can keep going to the same dealer for oil changes and other routine maintnenace so hopefully they'll take care of me as well as they've done for my parents.
I suppose I really picked the dealer first and then the vehicle... if a dealer wants to screw me they'll sell me one vehicle, but if they take care of me maybe I'll buy my next 10 there & bring my service business to them too; and probably through word of mouth I'll help send some new customers their way as well.

I agree with you Hammy, small town dealers have to work harder as they don't have the population base to only sell a car to some once. My dealer is a small town dealer 150 km away, i have to pass three jeep dealers to get there.
