ANSWER TO THREAD STARTER's QUESTION:

You should buy one if you:

A) like the look and style
B) if you cant afford an H1 (H2 and H3 not included in offroad catagory)
C) if you want a vehicle that performs flawlessly off road
D) if you want numerous other features that comes with this great vehicle

ps--> Option B) is a joke... if you can afford a H1 - you should instead buy 3 rubicons and lots of mods

well said, other than the part

Thanks for the info. guys, but I'm still not convinced on a purchase. I alreadly know that a Jeep is a great vehicle and tons of fun, I really don't care about the minor problems - plastic scratching etc. , it's the major problems like trans problems, front axles breaking , engine knocks, etc.
My problem is that I have the "mindset " that if I buy a new vehicle for 25,000 or more - I don't expect to have any problems , it's NEW !, If I buy a used vehicle for a much lower price ,then a few problems can be expected- after all - it's USED! I find it odd that the US buyer is willing to pay for a new vehicle and not expect / demand quality in the product they are buying. It's crazy that Toyota / Honda can build a quality vehicle and a US car company has trouble matching it for reliablity! I really want the JK and will most likely lease one if these gremlins continue into the 08 model year. Anyway thanks for the input and not jumping down my throat because I have a slighlty negative view on the JK's quality. Chris

OK - I know this is a hi-jack, but if you're the first I've heard of actually doing this on a JK. I'm seriously thinking about doing so and would love to see some photos. Please start a new thread and show us some photos!!

Back to the subject of the post, there seem to have been changes made to later build 07s and as some have mentioned the problems with the 07s may not be as bad as they seem from skimming through the forums. That said, there will be a few more minor changes made to the 08s and you don't have much longer to wait, so you may want to just go with an 08 at this point (especially for the 2-dr, which has apparantly been reworked to allow for an easier rear seat entry).

HDFFR,

I honestly think the "major problems" are by far the vocal minority. I'd like to see a vehicle with this much discussion floating in forums that doesn't have a few with problems.

You say you expect a new vehicle to be flawless? I don't, as these things are machines. What I do expect is that with problems, the dealer stands behind it and takes care of it pronto. There's a difference. I'm not saying that you put up with a lemon, but I beg to differ with those that think this vehicle is plagued with issues.

You get a Jeep and become part of a community that I haven't seen outside of here, and the knowledge on this forum helps me out every day. Ultimately, though, the decision is yours and what you want to believe.

Dude, anyone breaking axles are likely pounding their vehicles off-road or putting huge tires on them, or both. I purchased my JK in February for $24k, I have taken it off-roading (light to moderate) and it rocks, it is a great vehicle and I challenge you to find anything NEAR the quality and off-road ability of a JK. Try buying a similarly equipped Honda (Does not exist) or Toyota (Top does not come off an FJ Cruiser) for near the same price. Beyond that, is really is a Jeep thing and apparently you do not understand. If you are convinced you do not want a Jeep, great, good luck to you and I hope you find what you are looking for.

How long have you had yours? Because, if you haven't had the stall problem yet, you will. As regards expectations, I do expect flawless for my $25,000 since my last four vehicles prior to this one were flawless. For the record, two toyotas, one honda and one mazda. All of these vehicles might as well have had their hoods welded shut since they were completely bulletproof. I bought the Jeep on pure emotion (disengage brain and engage checkbook) because i always wanted one, the top comes down and now it has four doors so I can justify the purchase to my better looking half. Mine has had a litany of problems some minor and some major. AND both the dealer and DC have been unresponsive.

I don't understand why everyone apologizes for DC and is willing to put up with this kind of quality and customer service. You don't do them any favors by tolerating their lower quality standard. There is a reason DC is on its ass and it is because most people expect more for their money. That said, i really like this vehicle and hope DC can/will fix the problems. If not, it will magically turn into a Toyota FJ and DC will have lost yet more market share.

End of rant.

"Jeep thing" I don't get it ??? , What am I missing ?? . I understand Jeeps and what they are about, I love jeeps and again think they are alot of fun- I've owned them BEFORE. I have a Harley and understand the "Harley thing". No reason to take offense if someone is questioning the reliablity of a product. I've read posts on this forum and others where parts are not up to snuff and I'm concerned about laying out $25,000 for a headache vehicle. I have just gotten the impression from current owners posts that they fall short when it comes to quality control . Is there any vehicle currently made , even for more $$$$ that can compare with a jeep - NO WAY ! Chris
