Default Wider tire setups : anyone?

I don't know if I've asked this before but does anyone run a 'wide' setup? The area I live in is closest to beaches so most of the off-roading I do is in sand. You don't need clearance in the sand but you DO need floatation so I was 'thinking' of a 33X14.50 on a 12" wheel. Although I will probably end up on the standard 33X12.50, I'd love to see someone running a wider setup with reviews. So if you got em... lemme see em!!! (hell... I'd even run the MT Baja 33X17.50 if you could still get em and they fit!)

I've got the asbestos suit zipped up and I'm ready for the fire . :toung:

i know exactly what you are talking about. i think maxxis offers wider set-ups. you'll want to stick with an AT though, side biters on an M/T will just dig you in.

i want to run 35x14.5, just because it's so easy to put 35's under there...

I think the 14.5" would be sweet.

But, you still will need a little lift for the 35" as they will contact the fenders as the bounce a little on the sand.

Maybe a slightly stiffer suspension would do the trick as well.

I'm not sure about this yet but I will know in 4 weeks or so. I'm not sure when you plan on getting the wheels and tires but I will be getting mine in about a month. I'm gonna be running a 12" wheel and 35/15.50 Mickeys. I thought I was the only one that liked the wide stance... glad to see I'm not. I'm hoping a 4" suspension lift is going to allow me the clearance I need but time will tell I guess.

I definately (personally) wouldnt go bigger than 33s. I have 3.21s and dont plan on changing that. But I figure 33X14.50s on @2.5" lift ... maybe an additional 1" bl ... FAT CITY!! I very seriously doubt I'd go with that setup as that extra 2"width of tire adds alot of weight. Who knows... maybe I'll get a bug up my arse and do it anyway!! lol

Do you know which 12" wheel you'll be going with. I haven't found a whole heck of a lot of choices in this one. I'll be sticking with the eagle alloy I had on one of my other Jeeps. I was running them on a 33/13.50 Mickey.

NICE! Post pics when it's done for sure. I get alot of grief from all the other 'jeep' forums (I'm on NAXJA, also >> have a 96 XJ) and before I bought the JK, I was gonna do a similar setup on my XJ. I asked a similar Q and it got nasty over there. I guess everyone forgets that they are on a jeep forum and not a rock-crawling forum !? I think it looks awesome and it's an unbeatable setup for running on sand. I don't have a D44 up front though so I worry a bit about that.

Was thinking of going with Eaton blacks (from NTWonline.com). They're built to order. Haven't called yet as I don't plan on doing anything for awhile but I'm sure they can do a 15X12 5X5 no prob any offset.

I will definitely be doing that... I keep hearing all of these people with these long wait times on their jeeps. But so far the only Jeep Sahara 2 doors I have seen have gotten theirs within a month. The DAY I get mine it will be heading to the lift shop and then the tire shop. I already have them on standby.

I hate to hear people were wanting to hang you over you wide decision. I personally like the look a lot better but I think I am definitely not the norm. Although the same people here locally that told me not to do the 12" wheel on my last one agreed with my decision after they saw it.

I'm looking for a wider setup but without a lift. Most of my off-roading will be beaches and mud as well.

I am looking at AE wheels, preferably a 15", like the 187. What is the widest setup without a lift I can go with. I want at least 32", maybe 33" with little rubbing.
