Default Will 18mm offset give Jeep wide stance?

Hey guys, new to this forum. Lots of good info here. Thanks for that.

After a lot of debate I finally decided on which wheels I wanted to buy, and was going to make the purchase tonight. They are Dropstars 645b, 18x9, -12mm offset. I was going to get all 5 for $945.00 at rimzonline.

Well today, I was waiting on a friend to come out of a store and saw that a pawn shop had a set of XD addicts in the window. Not necessarily the exact style I was looking for, but I figured I would check them out. They turned out to be brand new in the the box, 18x9, 5x127 bolt pattern. Perfect, except that they are +18mm offset, BUT the they are only asking $349.00, for four wheels. I would be willing to sacrifice and not get the exact wheel design I wanted for that price, but not if I can't get the aggressive stance that I'm after. The way I understand it, the positive offset is going to make the wheels sit under the Jeep, a negative offset will make it stick out past the flares. I want the latter.

So my question is, am I correct about the offset? If so, is there anything that can be done, safely, to make them stick out more and give me that look? If not, is it at least safe to say that going with my original mind and buying the Dropstars with the -12mm - I will end up with the look I want? I don't think it matters, but the tires I'm going with are DuraTrac 325 65 18's, which are almost 35".

Thanks in advance for your help!

Well I'm certainly glad to see you excelled in mathematics.

The point is, even if I have to buy a 5th wheel, I still come out way cheaper.

Thanks for the informative reply though...

Yes you are correct about offset, they won't give you the stance and they won't even fit with 35's. Sorry for the bad news.

That is roughly 5.5" of backspacing. You'll need wheel spacers if you want to run 35's with those. This is most likely why they are in the box still.

Run a wheel with 4.5" of back spacing (or numerically less) and that will give you the look you're looking for and allow you to run 35's

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I was aware that I needed 4.5" of back spacing, but I was unaware how the offset was directly related to back spacing. I think I've got it now.

Any way, I went into Discount Tire today and ordered the Dropstars wheels that I wanted, and changed my order for the tires to 35x12.5x18 Trail Grapplers.

I can't wait til everything comes in!!
