I decided to stay with the steel cable for now. If I use the winch a lot, I may go synthetic, but most guys I know use their winch infrequently and I can't see paying almost as much for the synthetic cable as I paid for the winch!

got a 125 ft of synthetic 5/16 from quadratec. LOVE IT would never use a cable ever again. !! it'a a lot easier on the hands too also takes about 20 lbs off the weight! in my opinion can't go wrong you don't need to get warns version of the cable for 699 thats insane i think i paid 264 or around that no nore than 300 for 125ft 10,000lb breaking streangth and my winch is 8,000

I totally agree, I ended up getting 100ft of synthetic from David (Northridge) and will not use steel cable again unless it is while waiting on another rope to be delivered. I take my little boy with me and the safety aspect is the main reason not to mention the ease of use and the savings in weight.
