Default Winch question

I'm in the market for a winch. I'm wanting to spend $600 or less and want at least 10,000lb. I've narrowed it down to two winches and am looking for pros/cons and advice. The two winches are the warn vr10000 with steel line for $579.99. The other is the smittybilt xrc-10 comp-series 10000 lb winch with synthetic line for $549.99. Any advice would be appreciated.

Recon waterproof /wireless winch 10500lbs I believe I paid under $400 with synthetic rope on ebay received in under a week and customer service help me out with Key fob wasn't working they sent me a new one next day air. Pretty happy with it and easy to clean after you go mudding

I have the Smittybuilt X20 10K Comp for over a year with no problems. It serves me good.

Another vote for the Recon 10.5. 3 yrs and still going strong.

But out of your 2 choices.....warn.

One of the magazines ( I think fourwheeler) did a winch shootout a couple of years ago and the Harbor Freight winch came in second place. I think the Superwinch Epi 9000 came in first place.

Smittybilt x20 10 comp waterproof winch
5.5 hp motor
94 lbs
Wired remote
$650.00

Recon 10500 waterproof winch
6.5 hp motor
66 lbs
Wireless and wired remote
$440.00

Thanks guys for all your input. Seeing great results on the recon and a bigger motor, lighter weight, and being much more inexpensive this is what I'm going with.
