Default Winding noise?!

Any ideas what this noise is? I would have thought alternator or belt. No battery lights on the dash so maybe a belt? This started this week in the northeast once it got cold out.

One thing to try is remove the belt enough so that you can spin the various parts by hand. Usually you can hear or feel the item that is causing the noise. It could be anything from an idler to the alternator in that belt track. Just spin each of them and look/feel for wobble.

If you wheel in mud or sand then I would replace serpentines every 3-5 years as they don't like foreign substances between the pulleys and belt. And idlers about every two - idlers are non lubricated and are spinning at about 10,000rpm when the engine is at 2500rpm. Similar RPMs for the alternator but they seem to last longer.

Make sure you check all the pulleys and make sure a seized one did not contribute to the belt going.
