Default Windshield Wipers

I went in to the local auto parts/hardware/bait and tackle store to get wiper blades and his book listed the 07 Wranglers as having a 15" wiper blade. Now we all know those blades are not 15". So I went to the counter where I was told that due to Jeep making some sort of special clip you can not replace your own blades on Wranglers. Now I find this hard to believe but he also did not have any shorter than 15" either. It got me thinking though since I had to go into the city to get wiper blades what do you guys consider the best wiper blade to use? Also is there any truth to this "special clip" deal? BTW This is not the first I heard of this.

I just checked my service manual and they are indeed 15" blades (actually 14.76") They also appear to have a standard "clip on" attachment fixture, so just about any aftermarket blades should work. Just make sure you don't get the pin-type replacement blades.

Nice to know I got the 12 months but I would almost need double the mileage.
As far as the 15" blades I actually took them outside to compare and the ones on the jeep looked shorter. It rained today so I drove with streaks but I will be getting new ones soon and let you all know if what is quoted is actually what fits it would not be the first time the books and such were wrong.
BTW I did not think there were special clips but I knew someone with one of those fancy expensive cars and they had something that required a dealer install for wipers. I figured DC being all about the money and screwing the customer would have figured that one out.

As far as your post....don't know if you have something strange on yours as they are indeed 15. I've replaced mine and just got standard 15" blades at local auto store...nothing fancy or tricky about it. Just like any other vehicle I've ever owned.

Sounds like one of you is describing replacement wiper refills (just the rubber sleeve that contacts the windshield) and the other is describing full wiper blades (the rubber part plus the springy hardware that attaches to the wiper arm). For the small difference in cost, it makes sense to toss out the full factory blades and replace them with better aftermarket blades that are widely available. This also opens up a wider variety of options, including Anco winter blades, which aren't made in a 15" length, but are available in 16." You can fit 16" blades to a JK -- the extra 1/2" top and bottom mainly sweeps the blacked out area of the windshield glass but does not come into contact with the windshield frame.
