Default Wrangler Diesel

Just read in JP magazine that the Wrangler Diesel is dead and that instead they are coming out with an electric Wrangler It's no wonder that Detroit is in so much trouble with that kind of thinking.

What a loss. A U.S. Wrangler diesel would have actually been a pretty good seller. I understand the need to move to oil alternatives, but it seems DC has been neglecting all the baby steps over the last 20 years and instead is choosing to make a huge jump. I think a diesel Wrangler should have been on the market 10 years ago.

That is just their "opinion", not a statement of fact. We'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out. The electric JK they speak of is 2WD and far from production (if ever).

The last thing you want is Diesel Jeep. They come with Italian VM diesel engines which are probably the most unreliable pieces of crap in the world. Why didn't they use the the Cummins engines like Dodge? They make a great 4 cylinder version of the 6 that's in the Rams. What ever you do, stay away from Jeep diesels. Sales people will tell you they are Mercedes engines. BS! Only certain WJ's came with the 2.7 MB engine. All else use the Italian VM engine. In Europe the XJ came with the VM engine, and man did they have issues with it. No wrangler had diesel till the JK. Libertys, WJs, and WKs also run the VM Diesel engine. All have serious issues.

Thanks for the info recon.

It would be nice if they put a little 4 cylinder diesel in the JK though. I was really hoping for the diesel after JP opened their mouth and said they would bet that Jeep would put a diesel in the Wrangler for 09. I was pretty disappointed to learn that the 09's would not have the option of a diesel.

Am I the only one that hasn't heard of any of these issues?

I will keep on waiting... I'll take an electric JK OR a diesel, anything with more power than the 3.8L . . .

Holy misinformed Batman!

Wranglers have had Diesels overseas for quite some time. The TJ had the 2.7l VM Motori, and now the JK has the same engine but updated some. The WJ export Grand Cherokee that was built from 99-04 did not come with the Mercedes Diesel engine. It also had a VM Motori. The new WK Grand Cherokee has a 3.0L Mercedes engine that is available in the states as well as for export. If we see a Diesel in a JK it will be one of the new Cummins variants that are being tested after years of development, and should be seen in Dodge trucks within the next few years.

The VM Motori in the KJ is a beast. The problems lay with the torque converter, NOT with the engine.

I know, I own one.

BTW, we won't get the motori in the Wrangler anyway. The emissions have changed the ballgame.
