"X" or Rubicon ?
Hi,
I'm thinking of an unlimited JK, but I'm trying to understand the difference between the "X" and the rubicon.
Is it possible to "rubiconize" an "X" model? What will be the estimated price to do so?
Thanks!

A lot of this choice goes into what your future plans are
What your wheeling style is
How much money you have to spend
How much money you are willing to use for different mods
What about the Rubi besides 4:1 t case, elec discos, lockers can you do without
Ball is in your court

I would get the rubi, I have the X and I wish I had the rubicon. It is worth the extra money because, unless the axles have changed in the X since 07 it would probably be about $3,500-$4,000 to put a D44 up front, regear, and add lockers to get what the rubicon has
Heres your answer.
If you want and have the ability and or money and time, get the X and build it up the way you want. Axels, lockers, transfer case, ect, put all the best into it. It take time and money, you will end up with somthing simmilar if not better than the Rubicon. If you want something ready for just about anything you want to do short of the really tough rock climbing get a Rubicon..
The big difference in the two are the Rubicon has the lockers already, electric sway bar disconnect, and supper low transferr case. Its ready to wheel.. The X will wheel ok, just not as well in some areas as the Rubicon..

I started with a 2010 JKU 'X' Sport, I traded it for my Rubi after driving it 2,500 miles and adding up the costs to make it a Rubi.
What are your realistic plans for your Jeep?

If it's a mall cruiser or grocery getter, then an X is fine. If you plan to lift, have larger tires and frequently wheel, then you might consider a Rubi.
If you plan to build something nicer, like aftermarket D60's front \ rear and so on... I think buying a used X would be the way to go.
It's only money

With the Rubicon you get Dana 44 axles front and rear, 4:10 axle ratio, 4:1 transfer case, locker for rear axle, electronic front swaybar disconnect and maybe something else I'm forgetting. A Rubicon is supposed to be the best model to hit the trails in stock wrangler form. The axle(s), gearing and transfer case are made for crawling and the electro swaybar disconnect help with flex when off roading.
A "X" model does not get these feature but could be added as a factory option for more money.
Oh yeah a Rubicom comes with a bigger wheel/ tire package and the Rubicon sticker on the hood.

It depends on how much you will off-road it, how hardcore the wheeling will be, and how much money you make. If you will use your JK as a daily driver and don't want to take it really far off-road, I would recommend to save the $6K to $10K difference and get an X (or sport as they are now called) like I have. I am more than happy with my 08 unlimited X and I like saving about $100 per month on my JK payment compared to what I would have paid for a Rubi to pay for mods or even just gas and oil changes on my current X. But if you want a JK that is ready to go really far off-road and make more than enough money that you don't mind the extra $100 per month on your payment, the Rubi will wheel a bit better from the factory
