your thoughts on my "trade in" value...
i have a '10 Rubi 2 door that i've owned for about 10 months. It only has 4650 miles, but I'm beggining to think that my current lifestyle might call for an unlimited (though I prefer the look of the 2 door).
Do you think the dealer would give me decent value on the trade-in if I were to be purchasing an '11 Rubi Unlimited? Or should I stick with private party sale?

Take it to a dealer and see what they offer but it probably won't be much> Then take it to carmax and see what they offer. If you don't think those offers are fair, then sell it private party.
You're going to get shafted if you trade in a 10 month old vehicle, Rubi Jeep or not.
See what you can get from as many sources as possible (private party, every dealer in the area, Carmax, etc...) and bite the bullet or don't.
I vote don't before I even know the details of the deal because you've lost way too much in the last ten months of owning an amazing vehicle to outweigh the plusses of having two extra doors and more room. That's just me though--I don't have kids.
Basically, how much are the extra doors and extra space worth to you? How much do you lose by trading in or selling the 2-door? Which is greater?

Carmax gave me 3K more than the dealer offered my on my 2008 Sahara. Easy in and easy out with them as well. I highly recommend them if you have one out your way.

So I just went through this process with my dealer because I felt they lowballed the hell out of me when they offered me 9k for my acura tsx (I sold it private party for almost 4k more) but what they told me actually makes sense and was backed up with proof. In these times, cars aren't selling as well (duh) so large used car inventories are a risk (duh) and althought my car would be easy for them to sell off the lot, they aren't going to pay more for my car than they could get it for at auction. Why pay 12500 which is what I wanted when they can go pick up the exact same car at auction for 9k, they even showed me printouts of the last 2 months at auction for my car and the highest it went for was 10k. there are HUGE deals on clearing out the 2010's, but if you just bought a 2010 2-door and changed your mind to a 4-door, and a 2011 is what you have your heart set on, don't settle for a 2010 seems like you already made that mistake once
