Camping trip:
Took my kids camping in Memorial Park in La Honda this weekend. Top down, doors off, kids in the 3rd row back seat; it was beautiful.
I have a question about off roading. I've never done it and I'll be going with my kids this weekend. I've tried shifting into 4wd in the past and half the time I grind gears. I've tried it stopped, and I've tried it going very slowly (less than 5mph). I have an auto trans. Any advice would be good. Thx.

There is a section off of the main board called Off-road 101, it will answer a lot of your questions. If you are putting your Jeep into 4-hi all you have to do is pull the transfer lever down one notch towards you and that is 4-hi, it shouldn't grind, just give it a little tug. You don't have to stop to put it in 4-hi. You DO have to stop to put it in 4-low though. It just takes a little getting used to, that's all.
