Default Casparis Run -- 6/28/08

Well, only 3 of us showed for this trip but thats ok, because it was still a fun trip. for those that wanted to come and couldn't make it, sorry the timing was off just keep your eyes peeled for the next trip. and those that didnt come or didn't notice, sucks for you!

Boy was is muddy there. they called for rain all day, but we had nothing but clouds with random burst of sun light. it did start raining good right as we got off the trail. we were at the exit point, and it starts raining. talk about timing.

one funny little point in the trip was with the tree that had to be moved. Dave couldn't quiet fit under this one fallen tree that was across the path due to the luggage rack. so, with an axe, some tow straps, a saw, and winching, we got the tree out of the way. took us a while, but we did it.

but i'm glad we all got to go on this trip, it was fun, and i'm looking forwards to going back soon.

anyway, here's some pictures!!

we also took the short hike out to the over look while at the caves. what a view. once again, picasa is hindering the quality of my photos, this picture is 6613x2916 but displayed below is only 800x353.

and this is the train down in the corner of the picture above. not bad zooming eh?

He should have just knocked it out of the way, that is what racks are for.

I would have liked to have been there but I'm still waiting on a new evap canister to come in and I am slowly bleeding transmission fluid, plus I ended up having to work. Hopefully we will make the next trip.

well here's the funny part... it's the same tree... yeah, you kow the one. well, it aint there anymore. the problem was he needed about another 3-4 inchs to clear it. so we first thought about using the hi-lift and picking one end up enough for him to clear, but then thought, it'd be better not only for us but for anyone else coming along the trail to just remove the tree. so after all of us took turns hacking at it, and several attempts to snap it with the winch it finally gave. we had to have Paul in the silver TJ unlimited pull from one end and Dave in the TJ with the rack pull from the other end. that made it rotate to be inline with the trail rather then over it, and from there, we ran the winch line out in to the woods, and used a tree to change the pulling direction and proceeded to pull it up off the trail and into the woods.

I still think its rather funny that after that, Dave said "if we come to another tree across the path, I'm turning around" and not more then 1000 feet along the trail up the mountain we came to another one. and then another, and another, and...

luckly the rest of them were high enough he cleared them.

don't worry, i want to go back again in Aug if nothing else comes up. hope you got all the flooring done. was it tile or hard wood? i've done tiling before and it can be a pain, but never did hard wood before. i've only heard bad things about it...

Thanks again for all your help Steve, Paul, and Alex. That tree was just a little to low.

Next time, I will get out my sockets, unbolt the two front bars, flip the rack back over the top, and have two of you hold the rack behind the Jeep as I drive under.

Isn't hindsight 20-20?

At least the tree will not be there next time.

We lucked out with the weather every single day. Hope to go again this summer.
