Default Close calls.

So I figured id start a thread about almost getting hit. So mine happened last week as I was driving back to my parents from black friday shopping. Im driving down the highway getting ready to pass a semi modded mid 90's cheroke as im right about to pass him he swings out to pass a semi I hit the brakes & he noticed I was there & swerved needless to say I was cussing him out. On kind of a funny note as im passing him my girlfriend notices him out telling his friends to look at my jeep. So being the nice guy I am I slowed down so they could get a good nice look at the beauty that the driver nearly hit....So how about some more stories?

I hate it when I come up with an interesting thread idea and it flops. Here is a little bump for yours in hopes it takes off.

I was driving home from work one day, business as usual, when traffic comes to an abrupt stop in front of me. Well I stop in plenty of time with space left over to avoid the vehicle in front of me. As I usually do in such cases, I glanced into my rear-view mirror to see a big-old F350, lifted with a huge brush bumper on the front, barreling down on me. I knew he was gonna need more room and I obviously didn't want it to come out of my Jeeps rear end. Since we were in the left lane, I figured I could creep to the right in my lane a bit and give him as much shoulder as possible. As I did this idiot in a Mercury Mountaineer proceeded to stand on his horn and gesture at me as if I was kicking his grandmother in the stomach. Well I glanced back to my left to see the guy in the F350 right beside me on with a sheepish grin. He shrugged, waved, and mouthed, "thanks". I guess I saved him and me a bunch of trouble by moving over and scaring the you know what out of the guy in the mountaineer. That's a call I'd make over and over again. Defensive driving 1, hassle of a rear end collision 0.

That's my story. Somebody else has to have one. Let's hear it.

Default well not a jk close call but a jeep close call

I had just got a brand new cj-7 1977 and I am a geologist, young and pretty uh dumb I was probably 24. Took it out to this job site we were just doing the soils work on hadn't started grading or anything and drove up the is steep ass hill I figured jeep go anywhere Right? well at the top of the hill there is is a bout 2 foot vertical, remember this is a 77 cj-7 304 v-8 quadratrac, with an old 700r 3 sp auto, I drive up this and can't get up the ledge ( i t was a volcanic breccia) all full of round cobbles that were slick) Put the jeep in reverse I think and it takes off down the hill like a rocket, I can back up on flat ground but ona steep hill . so I slam on the brakes ( WRONG MOVE ) and now I a sliding down the hill back wards with the front end so light because all the weight shifted back to rear (= no steering ) and the thing starts to slide sideways , you know like one of those james bond turns where he speeds up back wards and does a 180. I didn't make the 180 only about 85 degrees and the thing stops totally sideways on the hill the only thing I think that saved me from rolling was the loose soil the wheels plowed up, So I throw in in park and jump because I was pretty sure it was gonna roll down the hill chasing me. I run off to the side and see just stop. I was scared _________. any way after about a 1/2 our of waiting form my heart beat to come back down and just watching it idle knowing its going to go over any sec I walk over to it and
start turning the wheel back and forth sorta walking it down so it gets so it is almost side ways I measure the angle of the dash it is at 26 degrees ( 2:1 slope like most graded slopes in so cal). I get in cant
really go all the way a round so I drive it off sideways into the canyon next to the road and bush whack it out through the bottom of the canyon. Later i found out that a bunch of kids had died in a CJ-5 on the same slope when they rolled it down the hill.
I guess that was my first lesson learned in a jeep probably one of the more humbling ones . and my first close call

Luckily I've only have had a few over the years.
Here's the most recent.
On HWY 114 about 30 miles south of Gunnison, which is a winding canyon road for the most part, a Semi came barreling around one of the corners going well over the speed limit taking up more of our lane then his. I had to brake and take on part of the shoulder... it all happened pretty fast as it felt like we we're back in our lane looking back wondering who he was going to kill. Crazy. If I would have run across a cop within a few miles I would have pulled him over so he could have tried to call forward, or take pursuit........ etc no such luck.
another I just remembered, coming home from Sedona, about a few miles from home I delayed a start at a green light just enough to allow a car to blow though a Red Light...not sure why I delayed the start as much as I did.... two teenage girls ,, they didn't even hear my Horn.......

always be on the defensive,,,

No Jeeping close calls, so to speak, all on the pavement coming or going.

Jeep On...
(not while driving)
