Colorado: Imogene and Ophir Photos
#11
I was up there the second week of July, and Imogene had just opened. That said, when they say "opened", I don't actually know where that gate is. Based on the weather and where the snow was, I bet you could make it at least halfway up without snow being an issue. But if the summit is closed, I don't know if access is closed off from town or somewhere higher. Someone local may be able to answer better than I can. We literally planned our trip dates around traditional openings for the major trails, and it worked out well. I generally wouldn't plan on much up high in June, to manage your expectations. It is so beautiful, though, so by all means make the trip and see what you can.
Got it. That makes sense. We probably would have gone later but we are tying this in with a few days in Grand Junction and a few days in Moab and temps are much better in the desert in early June than waiting till July so its give and take I guess. Either way it should be a pretty great road trip. Thanks for sharing your exp.

Another few pics; the beauty and Jeep-a-bility of this area is worth the trip for sure...
