Default Coppermines ORV Park - Altus, OK

After waiting almost 7 months since I found out about this small ORV park about an hour Southwest of us, the boys and I decided to take a short afternoon trip to Coppermines to check it out. While the place was actually closed, the owner and several of his friends and family were there working on building a bar and other amenities for an upcoming event. He encouraged us to check out the place and pointed us towards a trail that took us around the place - there were several turn offs to more difficult trails that we didn't attempt [NEVER OFF-ROAD ALONE]. So we just stayed on the easy part to get a feel for the place. It was very scenic and the place offers something for everyone - from just a basic trail to mud pits, rocks and there's a couple of places people could go fishing. They also have designated areas where people can camp AT the park.

Here are a few pictures we took today. Gorgeous day - 79° - 80° with not much wind, the sun was out - was almost tempted to have the top and doors off, but with thunderstorms and rain in the forecast till this coming weekend, I decided against it. Sorry for the crappy pictures, but it seems I can never remember to take my camera when we go out and end up having to rely on the cell phone - you'd think a 5MP Droid would take better pics . Enjoy!

The picture doesn't do justice but it was a pretty steep climb and all we could see going up was the sky!!

I just love the way this picture came out!!!!

cool, looks like a fun place. Is it big enough for a full day run with several of us?

It's not a huge place, but definitely big enough to accommodate for a full day's wheeling. I was just there for about a couple of hours to scope the place out and saw many turn offs for different levels of difficulty. When I got home, used the tracks created with the nuvi 500 and overlaid it on Google Earth to get an idea of the route I took - needless to say, I covered less than 1/4 of the place, if that. I'll definitely be going back there again. Here's a screen shot of the area with the track I took highlighted in Green.
