Day at Uwharrie....
Well didn't have anything to do today and all my friends were doing something else since it is a holiday weekend you know. What sucks is I couldn't make an real plans since I am in the military still and have duty tomorrow. So I took a day time to Uwharrie National Forest in NC to do some scouting and drive a couple of the trails. Completed the Wolfden and Falls Dam trails which are labeled easy on the map.
The 2 trails were easy and fun, but since my '10 Rubi Unlimited it still mostly stock, I wanted to see how it would do on the trails. The Park service put humps in the middle of the trails, probably to prevent wash out from rain water. With the extended wheel base of the Unlimited becareful of these humps, if you don't go over them the right way, you will hit your skid plates (the gas tanks and transfer case). It doesn't make a good sound but everything it fine, just a couple of small dents and scratches. Try to hit the humps at an angle and you can avoid danage on most of them. If the parks service hadn't made such a steep approach and drop off, it would have been OK. Guys with the shorter wheelbases will be good.
Guess I have to start shopping more seriously for a lift or heavier skids......Always something...
Trail permit for the day is 5 bucks..
OBTW the facilties are nice. I have camped there before at the Arrowhead camp ground...I recommmend them...
