I wanna Rock!
A few of us went to Moab for the Safari last month, what a blast! Gemini Bridges, Bull Canyon, Kane Creek, Poison Spider, and Cliffhanger were all fun in the stock 08 JK.
A friends YJ stripped out and dropped a tie rod end just as we were hitting the big rocks on the way out of Kane Creek. The shelf trail at that spot is not a good place to loose all steering. A lugnut and wrapped stainless hose clamp held everything in place until we hit the parts store in Moab. We fixed it back up in their parking lot that evening and hit the trails again the next morning.
Another friends YJ just stopped running about 3/4 of the way through Poison Spider. He was running the stock injectors on a new stroker and the computer shut it down. Thats likely good or the cylinder temps would have gotten too high and it might have cooked the new engine. Pulling him off the trail and back to camp w/ the new JK was great. I gave him quite the ride!
Cliffhanger sure has some tough spots. The shelves were just too tall in places for the short jeep...but we made it there and back anyway. Almost everyone else had 35's at least. Rear lockers were a must, front lockers sure helped. I've never dragged the underside so often on a trail. Their just wasnt any choice much of the time. Climbing out back near the trailhead was great. The low gears and lockers really shined there.
We're heading back to Moab the last weekend in May for our second trip this year. I've put on some black steelies (4.25 backspace) and 285 75 16 (33x11.50) w/o a lift. I think they'll work fine w/ the front disconnect loose on a crawl....but we'll see. I also have a new fuel tank skid plate and some diff sliders to bolt on. In the winter the jeep is my daily driver so I dont want to go w/ 35's. The 33's are great and whatever I cant clear I'll scrape over on the new skids.
We're still waist deep in snow here at the place. Soon it will all become a mud bog just to get home. The livestock have been feed off the back of a sled being pulled w/ a snowmachine for months now. The March Safari trip was a nice change of weather and we dropped the top while there for the balmy mid- 50's.....but May should be really Nice! I just hope its not too hot already.

Sounds like you had an awesome time! You're post makes me look forward to my western voyage I'm planning for the first 2 weeks of September. Ouray, mountain passes, then Moab. Two and a half weeks off work to drive from Ohio, wheel, camp, and drive back.
I appreciate all the responses to my trail report and hope everyone has a fun/safe time on the trails. Sorry, but no pics from here. The old dial up just isnt up to the task.
