Lower Coyote Canyon - 2nd Annual Guy Run 2010Dec18-19
Last year a buddy of ours frank8080 asked Moochie and I if we wanted to do a run/hike through Lower Coyote Canyon hiking up through Cougar Canyon we'll that turned into a full run/hike/campout and ended up being just the guys. Well exactly one year later I asked Moochie if he wanted to do a "let's get out of dodge run/hike/camp" again and blow off the Christmas shopping, crowds and in general people!
Day 1
The day started out dodging the rain clouds and hoping for good weather out in the desert (weather report called for 50% chance of rain). Desert Jeep, Moochie and I drove to Santa Ysabel picking up scowger along the way a anxious jayhawk jeep was already at Apple Country Resturant having his breakfast when we got there...then headed through Julian down to the desert meeting Moochie's brother Rico as well as JKProfessor and whitecon. The plan was breakfast, gas up, run Lower Coyote Canyon and then get to Sheep Canyon and setup camp early...then hike Cougar Canyon. Day one was awesome with only some slight adjustments to our plan...we hiked a closer trail up so a grove of palm trees and a waterfall...how cool is that! Sorry for the lack of pics I forgot my camera...these pics where supplied by JKProfessor.
New sculpture close to the trail head.

Airing down this is going to be a great weekend!

Lots of water everywhere and that was before this weeks rainfall!

sm_rubi taking a different line...show off!

Sorry but due to the sensitivity of this run no pics were taken at camp...however please know that plenty of beer and honey was consumed along with cigars, bison
shared and tons of food we men aren't afforded back at home!

Day 2
Began with an awesome sunrise and warmer temps than Saturday. We had some light breakfast and then broke camp to explore a little. We wanted to see just how far you can go up Lower Coyote Canyon before you hit the gate...years ago Blonda remembered when it was open all the way through up to Warner Springs (nowadays it's closed because it goes across the Indian Reservation). After driving as far as we could we headed out of the canyon and on to our Desert Dunes run followed by some high speed wash driving ending up at the slot.
Here a couple of the guys decided to take some posser shots

One last time to do the Jungle Crossing

Which keeps getting narrower and narrower

Trying to find a way out...don't think this is it!

This weekend ended up be one without rain and really not bad temps. While it wasn't a big group it was great to be able to take a weekend close to the Holiday Season and just "get out of dodge" and hang with some friends, drinking some
consuming some honey and having a great time. I want to thank the following guys for coming out for the weekend!
Desert Jeep (co pilot)
Jayhawk Jeep (thanks for the cigars dude!)
scowger (glad you could make it)
Rico (Moochie's brother)
whitecon (still have to say "no thanks" to the tequila)
JKProfessor (thanks for taking the pics and sharing the bison!)
Moochie (what can I say...thanks for leading the group and providing your guidance)
Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Years!

Thanks to everybody for a great time, and special thanks to Moochie and sm_rubi for the planning and direction.
Frank, thanks for letting me ride shotgun; would hate to have missed the trip. R.E. sent me a complete set of replacement bushings, free and overnight. Rears are in, fronts can wait till the new year.
Happy holidays, everybody!

Great photos Rand and nice job of putting this run together Frank.
Wish there were more pics of the weekend but maybe some of the other guys might chime in with some!
