Default My First Recovery!

My wife and I went to check out one of the local FSR's today. We started to hit snow after several kms. It was patchy so we kept going to how far we could get. Went around a corner and found a yellow TJ Rubi buried up to it's frame in snow. I always carry my recovery strap, so I offered to give them a yank. Tried to yank them from my front hooks first, in reverse, but it wouldn't budge. So while he dug it out a bit, I made a 20 point turn (narrow trail). Gave him a few good tugs, at first he didn't budge. Than I gave him one more with both lockers on, and let the wheels bite a bit, and started moving, and than came right out. I think they were relieved, they had camping gear but no shovel. It was pretty fun and good test for my jeep. Anyways, my wife and I decided to head back down and so did the TJ. On our way out we passed a GMC suv on street tires heading where we just came form...maybe I'll go tug them out tomorrow!

edit: sorry no pics, this was a spur of the moment drive and we left the camera at home...bummer.

Rubichronic - good deal helping someone get un-stuck!

FYI - next time, don't try to pull someone out in reverse or you may get "stuck" too:

Thanks. I was aware of this already. it was a pretty tight trail and turning around was tricky. I didn't try very hard in reverse, just a couple quick yanks. I couldn't get past him to turn around because of the snow, so I ended up backing up and doing a many point turn inbetween snow patches. Still, I think next time I'll just turn around right away to be safe.

Yeah, I've been on a few trails where turning around was next to impossible too, and if you really couldn't turn around you could back out until you could turn around then back in to help. It sure would be a pain to break your Jeep while trying to help someone out. Glad everything worked out this time!
