Question NJ to FL. Qs on time/fuel/experiences

So next week I'm taking a trip to my parent's house down in Palm Coast, FL and have been wondering what it would be like.

It's my first time driving down that far from NJ so it is somewhat new to me. A couple of years ago I drove my Srt-4 down to Myrtle Beach, SC and it wasn't so bad. Especially when considering it was modified and had a full 3' turbo-back exhaust with no CAT or mufflers. BBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Anyway, as far as the Jeep goes, it's a completely stock 4Door Rubicon w/ an Auto transmission. Also has a softtop if it matters. Cruise control will be used as much as possible. Weight will consist of two other passengers with several belongings.
How many tanks or how much do you guys think it's going to cost me as far as fuel is concerned?
Also, how long should it take?

Alot of my friends of mine think i'm for driving down to FL with something that does 15/19MPG, but I wanna drive on the damn beach down there!!! haha, you can't do that up here in Jersey.

Anyone here that has ever taken a trip down to FL from the tri-state area care to share their experiences, please do so...I'd love to read them.

are you interested in taking a way thats better then boring 95? you could take 78 out to 81, hardly ever any traffic and lots of farms, actually that is 90% of 81. you can take 81 to 77 to 26 back to 95 in very southern south carolina. Its only about 100miles longer but you'll avoid all traffic on 95 and there is major construction in SC on 95 now

make sure you drop the top for the ride

p.s. why is this in trails and tales section? you taking a trail to fl? lol

I have been to florida and back about 10 times, every time in cars, me driving twice. All i have to say is that it is the longest 24 hours (a few less for you in Jersey) I have ever spent in my entire life. The Carolinas take forever (no offense to those in the Carolinas). I've never taken any SUV down there but in any vehicle we ever took, we usually got about 5-10 mpg better then the highway mpg on the window stickers. I'd expect to get 2-5 out of an SUV just because of wind resistance. So my guess is an average of about 20-22 mpg in a stock JK if you behave in traffic. Next calculate how many miles you will be going then you should get a rough idea of how much gas you will use.

None taken! I live close to Myrtle Beach and from here to Florida is a long enough trip for me!! Ive gotten up to 22mpg w/ a 2dr x but the 4dr rubi will prob get a little less.

i Drive to Jax all the time from Charleston SC, My only piece of advice is keep it at 70 to 75 MPH as when i get to 80 mph in my 2 dr sahara auto i can watch the gas gauge start to fall, And there is tons of Construcction in GA if you take 95 to Jax big slow down! I get 20-24 mpg if i keep my foot out of it.

If you don't mind paying you can get on a non-stop train from DC area to Florida that will let you take your Jeep with you... I believe, you check-in in the evening, get a room, sleep, wake-up, your in Florida. Never done it, but considered it.

Florida's fun. Me from richmond va to orlando. fl. I have actually done it in about 9.5 hrs multiple times. I was rolling though, getting back for school. If you want to drive on the beach, save your money. The beaches down there have almost been steam rolled. Its like driving on a dirt road really. I personally eat drink and sleep the outer banks in n.c. It is real fun to drive on beaches down there. Pretty much the whole coast is drivable. In sections of course. If you havent been there, try it.

Wow, that's pretty cool - never had heard of that before... Pricing isn't that bad actually - around $600 for 2 AAA passengers and a JK, round trip.

For what it costs in gas to drive down there and back, or the cost to fly down and have to get a rental for the week, that's pretty cheap!

Actually, that's one thing in NJ you can do.... look up Island Beach State Park, can get there off exit 72 on the Garden State Parkway but I can't remember how much it was to get in.

I think I saved you ~2 days on the road and $500something on gas

Should take 18 hours. I did 18 hours in a Penske Straight Truck with the DT466 Turbo motor. I usually do about 70, but beware of Virginia, if you get pulled over, you WILL get a ticket. They are not very nice about out of state speeders. I think they know it isnt worth your time to come back and fight it.

Have fun, that drive is great. But I do 55K per year anyway, so I love driving.
