Visited Padre Island National Seashore a few weeks ago with my little brother. It's a very nice place to visit, and we camped and fished right at the southern most part at the Port Mansfield Jetties. Lots of fish, grilled to perfection. A little hot still, but not too bad.

The only problem we had was that I hydrolocked my engine and my brother had to tow me back to his house. Wednesday will be 2 weeks that the dealership has had my jeep, and I still don't know what they're gonna do to fix it.

The hydrolock problem is absurd. I have driven/splashed through more water driving in the springtime Dallas deluges. Seriously, I think this is a TOTAL DESIGN FLAW in the JK. Reviewing tons of posts from this and other forums confirms this to me. Swamping/sinking your jeep is gonna be a problem, most of the time (go figure). But splashing, even if it's fairly vigorous (which this WAS NOT) SHOULD NOT LOCK YOUR ENGINE.

My next mod will be a snorkel. This is a ridiculous situation, but it just has to be dealt with.

Gerry and I were just starting to plan a Rubi Trail Trip tonight for next year.

I'll keep you posted. It will be fun wheeling with you and your crew.

BTW The beach was very nice, but the issue I had with my jeep stalling was not nice. Talking today to my service guy in Corpus, it might not be hydrolock, but maybe my fuel pump, and a touch of salt water in the wrong place. But as of today, it might not be hydrolock,... That's good news to me.

Regardless, I will have a snorkel asap.
