Thumbs up Project-JK NorCal Signal Peak Trail Run Pics - 07/12/08

Welp, WOLette and I finally got a chance to wheel with DizzyLiz and a few of here NorCal gang and had a fantastic time running up the Signal Peak Trail which is just off of I-80 and next to the famous Fordyce Trail. While there was still a fair amount of smoke obstructing our views across the Sierra's, it was a lot less that we were expecting and amazing none the less.

Anyway, here are some pics from our run.....

Outside the Cisco Mtn. Grille where we met up and had breakfast....

Airing down at the staging area....

The Signal Peak Trailhead....

Some fun rocks to play on right from the start....

Here's Sean and Dizzy....

kidjeep....

and MBATF....

It's a little hard to see it in this pic but the first few miles of the trail was a very steep climb up loose rocks and boulders....

Did I mention that the trail was very narrow in places with a lot of trees and brush - custom pinstriping anyone?

Half way up the first part of the trail, we came across a large fallen dead tree. Here we are assessing how best to move it out of the way....

Rigging up a treesaver and snatchblock so that we could winch the dead tree out of the trail....

Thanks to everyone's help and MBATF's winching, the trail is clear again....

Another fallen tree we encountered along the way was small enough to just crawl over....

Closer to the peak, the forest started to thin out and open up to some beautiful meadows filled with wildflowers....

Here we are at the top of Signal Peak....

Hiking out to the abandond Signal Peak lookout station - unfortunately, the view beyond was screened out by all the smoke....

A few shots of the look out station....

And finally, having some lunch before heading back down the mountain...

I'd really like to thank kidjeep, his friend Steven, MBATF, his friend (I apologize for not catching your name), DizzyLiz and her husband Sean for joining us on this exceptionally fun day out on the trail. It was a real pleasure to meet and wheel with you all. I'd also like to give Dizzy special thanks for helping to put this run together and for making our first NorCal run as wonderful as it was.

yeah, the smoke put a damper on the views but it was still pretty amazing to be up there. guess we'll have to go back when the smoke clears
