Thumbs up Project-JK San Diego Corral Canyon Trail Run

Over the weekend, we got to join the San Diego Crew out in Corral Canyon for an outstanding meet-n-greet that sm_rubi put together. In all, I think we had as many as 17 Jeeps, 16 of which were JK's and the last of which was a YJ. The day was broken up into two runs with the first being a super easy scenic run up Skye and Espinosa Trail and then later in the day, we did a second run with a smaller group up Sidewinder. With the exception of one broken front axle, the day went without a hitch and I think it's safe to say that everyone had an outstanding time. Anyway, here are some pics from our day out....

The morning of the run, WOLette and I hooked up with Trail Bud and we had our traditional breakfast at Janet's Montana Cafe which is located in all places, "The JK Corral". BTW - did I mention they have outstanding food!!

At the Four Corners Staging Area where we met up with everyone....

Group introductions and drivers meeting....

Lining up and getting ready to roll....

A vast majority of the first run was super easy and therefore, we didn't make any stops along the way. Needless to say, the first opportunity we had to snap some pics was when we stopped for some lunch under a grove of trees....

Near the end of the first run, we made one more stop at an overlook....

Making our way down Los Pinos Mountain....

Back at Four Corners, Kupost explains where we will be going for our next run...

Right from the start, Sidewinder has some fun boulders you can play on. Here are a few shots of guys taking them on....

Working our way down the spine of a granite slab....

Dropping off the slab....

Stepping up drive shaft killer....

Making our way over to the slide....

Taking some time to give the slide a good look before taking the plunge....

And here we go - weeeee....

Hammering up the optional obstacle toward the end of the trail....

CA-JK giving it a stab... or two... three ...

After almost making it twice, CA-JK finally threw in the towel after falling off his line and getting dug in....

Still struggling with the winch to get up, he ended up blowing his front axle....

JKMARINE shows off the blown u-joint he just picked up off the trail....

Everyone pitches in to help out....

We had some trouble pulling the shaft and this was the reason why....

With CA-JK rolling again and the sun almost down, everyone else decides to take the main obstacle which still proves to be a challenge....

The very last obstacle always offers up one of the best opportunities to take a pic of awesome opposing flex....

Airing up at the rest area and getting ready to have margaritas!!

Again, these are just a handful of pics that we took from the run and TONS more can be found here:

Super BIGASS thanks to sm_rubi for putting this meet-n-greet/trail run together and to Kupost for leading the first run. I can't wait to hit the trails again with all of you soon!!

The following day, WOLette and I hooked up with Moochie and we headed down to the Mexican border to explore Elliot Mine and hike out to Smugglers Cave. Here are some pics from our day out.

Posing with a Border Patrol JK....

Parked on top of Elliot Mine looking north....

Exploring one of the many mine shafts....

Moochie looking down one of the vertical shafts....

View of Valley of the Moon and Mexico beyond....

Looking at the stone wall from the inside....

Writing on the wall....

and last but not least, Moochie standing on top of Smugglers Cave for scale....

Great pics. It is a rare treat to wheel with someone who knows how to use a camera (and remembers to charge it)
