Project-JK Tierra del Sol 2008 Trail Run Pics
In spite of all the crowds, the unrelenting wind and all the nerve erroding sand that came with it, I can honestly say that WOLette and I had a wonderful time at this years Tierra del Sol and if for no other reason that the fact that I got to meet and wheel with so many new SoCal JK owners such as James 90755, meno, Jeeptony, SoCal_JK_2dr and SoCalRedRock. Of course, one of the biggest highlights of the trip for me was being able to meet our very own moderator Piginajeep and his wife Jen in person, both of which flew out all the way from Ohio to join in the fun.
Anyway, here are some pics from our TDS excursion. So you know, they are posted in order as things unfolded and if you want to see more pics from the particular time frame, simply click on the pics and you will be redirected to the appropriate page in the Project-JK gallery.
DAY 1
Breakfast at the Golden Egg Omlette in Escondido...

Gassing up with CLACKEY(_!_)

Looking back at rush hour traffic on the 78...

Our little TJ on display at the 4 Wheel Drive Hardware Booth...

Airing down at the South Coyote Canyon trailhead was especially nice this time around due to the abundant wildflowers in bloom - or, as people in Ohio seem to call it, "look at all the weeds"...

Here's a couple of close up shots of the wildflowers...

Piginajeep on the lookout as Trail Bud and Bullfrog try to steel James 90755's winch...

meno making his way through the big water crossing in his stock JK...

Bryan from 4WD doing a little stretching before the hill climb...

James 90755 doing a great job of making his way up the big hill in his stock X...

and here's JeepTony doing an amazing job climbing up this challenging section of trail in a stock X with a 6-speed and 225 tires....

Piginajeep finding out how much easier it is to climb big rocks that aren't covered with slick mud...

overton walking up the trail without any problems...

SoCalRedRock, onesickrubicon, meno and toad making their way up the hill...

Having broken his JK on this trail in the past, Trail Bud intended to conqure it this time around...

doojer was running late and seen here trying to sneek up to us like he was always there...

Toad showing off her off-roading skills by taking on all the biggest rocks...

CLACKEY(_!_) walking up everything like it was a paved road...

The end of our first TDS run...

DAY 2
Sunrise at our campsite in Arroyo Salado Wash...

Wildflowers were even in bloom in this rugged wash...

Wathing the pumpkin patch being formed in real time....

Overton educating himself at the pumpkin patch...

doojer starting his descent down the steep sanding road leading up to the Slot...

Making our way into the narrowing Slot...

Stopping for a group shot in one of the narrowest sections of the trail...

At times, the walls of the Slot get so close together, they practically become a cave...

And finally, making our way back out...

Once again, I'd like to thank everyone who came out to join us on our runs and for those who braved the wind and sand to camp with us. Both WOLette and I had a wonderful time with all of you and hope you'll all join us on our next adventure. As for Piginajeep and Jen, our Jeep is your Jeep and if you can ever make your way out here again in the future, you can be sure that you'll have a great time!!
