After the Shamrocked 2011 event in Red Rock Canyon, California, I traveled to Las Vegas to visit Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada (confusing names, I know).
Sorry I didn't stay for the Shamrocked party but I had to choose between this:

and this

So this is mainly a road trip.

But I did discover a nice trail in Red Rock Canyon, which is only a few miles out of Las Vegas. Somewhere along the loop road around the park, there is a rocky unpaved road that goes to outside the park and is legal to drive.

At this point, it started to hail and snow a little bit. Funny as Las Vegas is usually very sunny.

When I came to the highest point in the road, all I saw was a steep snowy trail (no photo of that). If I had to turn back later, I may not have made it back up, being all alone. So I decided to turn back.
After this I went to Valley of Fire State Park. There is absolutely no off roading allowed there. But it's definitely worth a visit for the sheer beauty of the landscape.

Pink Jeep tours ... It's not a Jeep okay!?

Valley of Fire is known for the rock drawings that ancient people left behind. It seems to me they were more advanced than given credit for. Am I crazy or is that a Jeep pictograph at the top right?

That trail you started is a great trail, it's Potato Ridge/Lovell Canyon. We just rode that on Wednesday and it was a ton of fun. With the snow you may have made it a bit further until you got to the beautiful "rock garden" that is about 100-150 yards long but you need a spotter the 1st time through. Its about a 5 mile (5hr) trail overall to entry/exit is about 10 miles total with a few rock areas and a few mud holes, hills and an old scenic road from the highway. You got to enjoy our scenery out here and of course I'm biased but I think its incredible. Glad you got to enjoy our trails. Here are a couple of pics from our trip of my Rubicon.
