Arches is fantastic an is litterally only minutes from Moab. If you have the time there is the Delicate arch hike, but July is killer heat so start early and tons of water if you plan on that one. There is a great cliff jumping spot on the river just south and west of town if you want a fun place to cool off. I would recomend life jackets and you could probably ask the motel for directions, it should be pretty well known to the locals.

Last June we drove the Colorado River Overlook Trail that starts at the Canyonlands Visitor Center. Trail was much more interesting than described in Wells' book. Overlook at the end was well worth the drive.
Other comments so far are all correct.
We have used moabutahlodging.com for info on some nice places to stay.

I believe it is. They have several home brews on tap, great food and half a wrangler with a tv showing crawling videos on it. Great atmosphere!

Nice shot. I have meant the guy who took that picture in Patagonia, Az at the fall fest.He also won the cover of Arizona Game and Fish 2010 calander. But yea your Jeep won't quite get you there.
