Default Trout Lake, British Columbia

Well....I finally made it out to Trout Lake - American Creek FSR this summer with the family. I heard rumours how nice it was from Revelstokes ATV club and a few buddies said I maybe able to reach the Alpine with my JKU. Well, I made it with no issues, some rock boulders to crawl over and some pucker factor drop off's....but all in all I can say what a awesome place! It starts out with a nice FSR logging truck haul road and then dwindles down to a mine/quad trail near the middle and top in places.

I bumped into 3 hiker's that had a Nissan X-terra parked down just below the Alpine where there were rock scree's and very and I mean very tight switchbacks that they could not get over with the Stock X-terra. I even had a few pucker moments trying to get up the road! He was just shocked that I made it up with our JKU and asked several questions on the capabilities of our JKU and how I like it! LIFE"S A JEEP!!!

The scenery was just amazing you could see several mountain ranges and I swear at one point you could see Mount Baker in Washington State! I actually wish I had more time to spend up in the area as I only covered 1/2 the mountian alpine area. I guess I will make another trip up next summer and campout.

Here are several photo's I took. I may even think of trying to get a group of Western Canada JK's to head up to this area for a weekend! No as much driving or mud challenge areas as the Whipsaw trip....but the scenery and hiking was amazing!!!

It's about 275 miles from Sandpoint, ID. You can go 3 different ways.

If you are heading up from Sandpoint you can Turn at New Denver,BC and head east over to Kaslo, BC and follow Highway 31 north through Meadow Creek (Last Fuel). Just keep heading up this highway (Dirt highway) and cross a bridge where the old mining town of Gerrard used to be and head up the road a few KM's and you will see the FSR sign.

You Head up to Nelson and head north to Kaslo and it maybe shorter this route and you can hit Ainsworth Hotsprings on the way up.

Or the Longer route

You can head up towards Nakusp, BC & hit the hotsprings there and keep going towards the Gelena Bay Ferry and just before the ferry you turn on Highway 31 and it loops around to trout lake townsite which has fuel. You will come to a T-intersection and head to Trout lake and it's a dirt highway (Highway 31) It's about 46 or 47km board where the Trout Lake - American Creek FSR road is located.

Either way it's still an awesome drive...great scenary and I recommend Kaslo to stop for a meal and fuel....great little town of 1000 people and some history!

Yes very similar...Revelstoke is located right in the heart of the Selkirk Mountian Range and has the Rocky Mountain Range to the East and Monshee Mountain Range to the West. Also, similar to Colorado....Revelstoke has lots of Mining history in the Surrounding area's with lots of old mining trails up into the alpine areas. I still have Colorado on my bucket list to go wheeling in some of the high elevation areas!

Nice.

The one thing that sets canadia apart IMO is the beautiful blue color the mineral deposits give the lakes.
