Default Weir run June 9th

The Trail Report...

We all met up along the way. on Friday night June 8th....The plan was to be gone at 3pm..... Peter showed up at the house a little late, and Scott and Nancy called from near Belleville stating that they where caught behind a major accident on the 401 and would be delayed.....So... Jordan and I waited patiently for Peter to show...Shortly after 3:20 he arrived and we prepared the rigs for the highway trip ahead...We caught up with Scott and Nancy on the 401 around Lansdowne and continued to Brockville to meet up with Chris and Carol at the PC gas bar near Wal-Mart....some photos where taken and tanks filled and also emptied and off we go.......

The trip up through Hawkesbury, Kilmar / Lost River... went well, and we all arrived as a convoy at "Weir Central" around 7:45pm. We made short work of unpacking saying our "hi and hellos" to Mom and Dad (who where waiting for us to arrive and had called to reserve a table for us at Alfred's for 8pm...) we where all very hungry and headed out to Alfred's Beefeater in Arundel.....Scott wanted steak..... And I would provide the most incredible steak that I knew of...?.

We all had a "blast" at the restaurant drinking Black Tower and Beer and enjoying "gourmet rancher steaks" with succulent Lobster and soft mouth watering lamb The service and the ambience was....well fantastic. We even managed a shot in front of the “Order of Good Cheer Wall” http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2355...76174178pCTtnS

Heading back to the cottage we all went inside and visited with Ma and Pa had a few "Wobbly Pops" then headed to bed as we had to rest for a relaxing 2 and or 2.5 trail tomorrow...or so we thought..........?

First thing next morning we awakened to the sweet aromas of freshly ground coffee beans brewing and maple bacon frying up crispy in the pan…Mom and Carol prepared a fantastic breakfast for all the gung-ho Offroaders.

Peter swapped out his tires first thing on Saturday morning, Scott clear covered his windows Chris and Carol de-windowed the Rubi and Jordan and I through a bunch of water into the back of Ol’ Red Rock…We headed out to the trail head.

We got to the beginning of the trail around 10:30 Dad and Peter aired down the TJ. Chris and Carol, Scott and Nancy nd myself… decided not to air down which would later prove to be my downfall.

We all headed out and hit the first few off camber moments rounding a rather steep and extremely rocky and washed out section of the trail then mud and water. The next few Km’s where just nice scenic mountains and valleys with more rocks and mud; until we headed into the forest and came across an empty Tracker on 35x15.5’s with a beefy exoskeleton. Jordan noticed the struggling sounds of a revving engine in the distance and so we headed on foot to investigate.

Arriving at the base of what Peter later called “a huge Caesar salad with extra croutons” hill. Upon which was a Jeep with 37’s trying everything it could to get over large diff busting boulders. At the top were the Quebec 4x4 club and around 7 rigs including a well kept FJ. They were trying to spot this fellow on the left line of the hill.

We met Stephan as he came down to greet us and apologized for blocking the trail with his rig. Of course offered assistance but this was shrugged away as he explained that they where just having fun. He moved his rig up the trail and managed the hill on the left as well…they winched up the last bit of the hill and cleared the area but managed to all find a comfy spot to watch the show that was about to come…

Jordan and I got back in the JK and we headed up to the base of the “salad” Stephan from Q4x4 insisted we take the left line. Last year I had used the right side and found it much easier as it was mostly logs and dirt so my first choice was to repeat the line I had used and also it still appeared to be the least damaging route to me.

Well, after putting my good judgement into the small garbage bag in the back of the eep I proceeded up the left side with Stephan and Chris trying to spot me… Eventually after many crunching and grinding sounds ringing out from under the Jk and the total destruction of my steering dampener and tie rod along with removal of all paint from the skid plates under the Red Rock……….. a fellow named “Armand” came down from the mountain (kind of like Moses) .

Armand took over the spotting and insisted I air down (I told you it would be my downfall) with everyone’s help I did manage….and with a little (lot) winching to climb over the stabbing boulders and crest the last of the “croutons” his girl friend started to laugh as I cranked the AC/DC tune “Hard as a Rock”…They said good bye and headed back to their group…Thanks Armand…

I positioned myself above the trail and watched as Scott and Chris aired down their rigs…ha ha… Chris was next to try the hill and he made it up with a little smashing and crashing and good old fashioned winching…

Scott decide to take the right side instead of the left and made it all the way up to the first log which we managed to winch him over with Chris and Carols winch. Peter followed Scott’s lead and again no problem except with the log as it seemed to want to send all those who would dare to disturb it… off to the side. Again Chris’s winch was utilized and Peter was up.

The next hill was challenging but simple in comparison… and only Scott had issues with the lay of the rocks. We all headed through the next 3 kms without any real issues just a lot of water and diff busters. We all decided to stop for lunch at the base of the hill that gave Pete and I such fun last year and I decided to walk up to see the condition of the trail.

I could not justify even trying the slope as it was chewed up so badly and razor sharp rocks sat on the sides of the trail just waiting to be of assistance.

Chris and Carol decide to try just going up to see what it would be like and hit the point of no return on the hill and decided to abort (this is about 10 yards up) They then found out what it is like to slide sideways on a slimy slide……. not much fun…… but he did survive.

We all headed through the next 5-6 kms without issue and got some great shots. I made the mistake of suggesting we head back to the cottage at the next road junction. (Before the end of the trail where Peter met his evil nemesis the “the rock of doom”) ..

So we all kept on going till I got stuck in the mud at the site of Peter’s Rock Chris had to winch me back out as I was high centered on a rock. Then Chris decided he could make it through………..

Well “Ha!” nope…Scott had to bring his Jk to the front and Chris winched himself out…Then Peter came through with no problems and laughed at the pathetic little rock that had caused such emotional scaring.

We all headed back to the cottage and Jordan set up a fire Dad and I cooked up some assorted sausages and burgers and Mom made up an awesome salad we p[pigged out and then went outside to the fire. It was a fun time as we tried to count satellites and shooting stars. And we all hit the hay around 1am ending a great and exhausting day…….Can’t wait to do it again.
