Just got back from a week in Estes Park. Been there 4 yrs in a row, and it is the most beautiful place I have ever been. Traildamage.com has always been my guide for trails out there. The only thing is, the trail descriptions sometimes don't even do the trail justice! Took my 98 wrangler (waiting on my '12 that's in D1 to get here!) which is pretty much stock, so I didn't do anything too crazy, but Pierson park road is a nice bumpy couple of hours! But the best ride of the trip was to Winter Park a couple hours away. Trail called Rollins Pass West. h**p://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=134 Unbelievable....

The area around Breckenridge (Summit County) has many great trails and camping areas. Some of my favorites are Argentine Pass, Radical Hill, Webster Pass, Red Cone, Georgia Pass, Boreas Pass, Saints John, and the Middle and North Forks of the Swan River. The descriptions are all listed in Charles Wells Guide to Colorado Backroads and 4-Wheel Drive Trails (Third Edition).

The books I recommended are by Charles Wells so you may have already ordered one of them. His site is Funtreks.com but they can be found at a lot of places including Amazon.com. There are two books for Colorado,

Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4WD Trails (3rd Edition)

Guide to Northern Colorado Backroads & 4WD Trails (3rd Edition)

Good luck.

Default Creede Colorado

We just got back from Creede, Colorado. Spent a week there at San Juan Ranch. The weather was awesome mid 70's during the day mid 40's at night. Sure hated to come home to this 100 degree weather here in Oklahoma! We took my wifes 08 unlimited x up there. The only mods it has is a 2" front leveling kit and 285/70-17 Falken Wild Peak AT tires on it. We had no problems on the trails we took. Had some tire and fender flare contact a couple of times but that was my fault for listening to the kids and going a little to fast. We went up Bristol Peak, Pool Table, and Stoney Pass. We enjoyed all of them. I definately recommend Bristol Peak. The view is awesome. If you do go up Bristol make sure you start early. You don't want to get caught in a afternoon lightening storm. It can get kind of exciting up there. On Pool Table I would also recommend starting early and make sure you have a map. You have many options you can take and a variety of scenery. We were on the trail for 6 to 7 hours and ended up at the golf course in South Fork when we exited the trail. We also had to manuever around two boulders that had fallen on the trail. Also make sure you pack some warm clothes in the Jeep with you. I wore shorts most of the time but when we got to the top of Stoney Pass and Bristol Peak I had to give in and put wind pants and a hoody on. At the top of Stoney Pass it started sleeting on us and on Bristol the wind was blowing like crazy.

10.5 GT thanks for post #1 on this thread as well as the recommendations for the sights. I got similar warning about Pikes Peak from locals when they found out we were going up on a motorcycle so we did get on the mountain as early as possible. Also welcome to the forum. Post some pictures if you have some.
