Default Would like to sample the Rubicon Trail - need advice

I'm taking the family (Jeep included) up to Lake Tahoe next week and it almost seems criminal not to visit the Rubicon Trail while I'm there. Unfortunately, the rest of the family doesn't share my passion for rock crawling so I'm wondering if there is an easy to moderate part near the trail head that would at least let me show them what it's like, then turn around and come back without running the whole thing.

Eventually, some day, I'll go back with a group and do it right, but for now, I'm just looking for an opportunity to introduce the family to what I do when I go off on the trails and maybe, just maybe, they'll enjoy it enough to go with me some day.

So to those that have run this thing, is it possible to just do a sample / short run in a few miles and then turn back? Or will I mess up everyone else coming up? Or does this thing start off hard and should not even be started alone?

Default Do it !!

The Tahoe end is not real bad for a good distance but it is still jeeping. Nothing real challenging but it is rocky and bumpy. There are some trails that run off the Rubicon Trail that are fun also. I say go for it. How mad can she get ?

Default benefit to taking the wife

I took my wife to a moderate trail in my jku with just a leveling kit and 33s. Scared her a bit with all the scraping and rocking so when I told her on the trail I needed to upgrade my jaw fell to my stomach when she said "heck yeah you do", needless to say I got a full suspension installed the following week and a green light to spend for 35s. So happy she is on board cause we all know one thing is going to lead to another ... gears ... lockers ... armor ... Give up the fancy dinners and vacation sweetheart, I need to upgrade!

So hopefully you will experience the same benefit from a "family offroading trip".

There's some cool fire roads off Kingsbury with awesome views of the lake. Some challenging little sections.

Is there a place in Tahoe to pick up maps/info about the trail and surrounding area?

Same situation here. Cadillac Hill sounds interesting. Now I just need a jeep for my time in Lake Tahoe. Will be on my honeymoon in August and cant find a place anywhere at Lake Tahoe that rents Jeeps. (Online that is...)
