37s on stock Sahara 18s
 

Hello,

I have a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. Ive been searching for awhile, i feel like i read a specific width that the rim should be, but i cant find that information now. The stock 18s currently have 255/70s on them. I plan to lift, and space, but will a 37 inch tire fit? I also feel like this was answered somewhere else, but again, i cant find that either. If someone has a link for that, or the specific knowledge, id appreciate it. Im not well versed in tires.

You can put it on there but don't expect optimal tire wear because the width of the tire (typically 12.5") is wider than recommended for a 7.5" wide stock wheel. 37*13.5's below on stock width wheel and then a 9.5" raceline.

I keep going back and forth. I really wanted to go 37s. I think im going to go 2.5 inch lift with 35s, should give me a decent start anyway. Im new to jeeps, and im one of those "learning as i go" type of guys. I dont want to replace axles and all that stuff. Thanks for the info, but i suppose from here out its a search for reasonable priced set of 16/17s with 35s. Thanks!

You really need to think about things before you toss 37s on, much less on a factory wheel.

In all honesty, "learn as you go" can put you in a deep deep hole of constantly fixing stuff. A 2.5" lift with 35s will take you 99% of of the places 37s will take you, and be a ton more manageable. If you REALLY want 37s in the future, let that idea influence every decision you make as you build with 35s. IE, when you buy new wheels, make sure they are appropriate to accommodate 37s. If you regear, make sure the gearing would be appropriate for 37s. That way, when you get to the point of making that last jump, you will have already addressed MOST of what you need to and the final leap shouldn't be that huge.

Alexandria like Northern VA? 35's and 2.5" is plenty to where you can still get into parking garages. 37's look cool, no doubt, but they aren't practical as a daily. They do give you a little more oomph to go a little further on the trail but 35's will help sharpen your driving skills until you decide what you want your jeep to be. There's nothing wrong with building in phases. I have certainly been through more than one set of tires (I think I'm up to 8 now) and more than one lift kit.

It's a great learning experience and it's more fun than just blowing through the parks with 37's. 35's make you work for it a little more.

Look on any tire mfg or sellers website, find the tire you want, then click the link for the specs. Somewhere in the specs list with be the height and width, the load rate, tread depth, etc, etc - and the recommended rim width range.

For example, the 37x12.50x17 BFG KO2 suggests :
Rim Width Range (Min/Max) 8.5" - 11"

If you choose to go outside of the range for any given tire, be sure to talk to your tire shop to make sure they will mount the tires. Some will, some won't.
