Another cheap fix for a cheap JK owner
My latest escapade was today....
Inspired by the idea of that neat fiberglass bow product that is designed to keep your soft top from flapping, I decided to embark on a quick DIY project for my cover.
My top is completely off my Jeep and it stays in the garage.... the top, not the Jeep. Since the Jeep still has carpet, when it is going to rain, I toss a cover on it to keep it dry.
My driveway is at a pretty steep angle and water tends to pool up on the portion of the cover over the rear of the tub. Up to now, I have resorted to sticking a plastic pail or other item under the cover to keep it tented... keep the water off. Annoying as I keep misplacing whatever I used the last time and have to go hunting something new or keep some extraneous junk in the Jeep.
A quick trip to the hardware store for a couple of items:
1) 4" flexible joint for 4" PVC
2) spidergear clamps
1) 1/2" cross style PVC connector

I forgot to take a picture of the first step. I cut the PVC cross connector in half and cut the flexible rubber join in half as well. Cut a hole through the rubber and inserted half of the PVC cross in each.
Attached to the rollbar just behind the sound bar, one on each side.

To keep the cover tented, I am using something that is always in the jeep anyway, and has to come off before I can cover it....
The CB Antenna! My antenna is on a QD base so I just pop it off when I want to cover the vehicle. Usually I toss it in the back but now it can still be working even when the Jeep is parked.

This shot is taken from below, looking up, so it looks like a bigger loop than it actually is....
So, for $10, I solved my water problem and you really can't see the clamps I made from the outside of the Jeep.
Last, but not least, I noticed my radio antenna had been beating up my light. A small round-terminal type wire terminal solved that problem.
I bent it at a 90 degree just behind the head, and used some solid core wire to create a loop around the antenna, trapped of course by the crimp in the connector.
