Banks intake for 2011 JK
I know there are a few of these up already, but I haven't seen a BANKS intake review for the 2011 and I know the 2011 has a new management system. So I thought I'd throw it up here for you guys.
Just installed the Banks intake on a new 2011. The JK has NO performance upgrades as of yet, so this will be a good review for people who are just looking to do their first mod. I do have a lift and 35s though, so it was good to see what the change in power and MPG would be since they both went down with the tires.
Why I went with the kit:
Honestly, I can't say that I liked this intake over any other. Most intakes on here have mixed reviews and there is really no dyno proof to say one is best for our JK over the others. I went with BANKS because it is mostly shrouded and they have a good reputation in the trucking world. All I can do is compare this to the stock intake though.
Initial impressions:
The Banks intake is well built and comes with everything you need, but I expect that out of anything that costs this much. Install is easy and no fitment issues at all.
First drive:
Here is where the surprise comes in. To be completely honest, I do notice the difference right off the bat. Not much on the very bottem end, but just a small amount of tq regained from the larger tires. Right about where the midrange begins is where there is a noticeable difference, and this difference can be used. Its the RPM range that the JK utilizes when taking off from a stop, getting out of corners, and getting on freeways. It basically makes a JK with 35s drive very similar to stock again. Top end difference.... does a JK have top end? haha
The sound is not different at all untill you are above 2500-3000 RPM, but it does sound GREAT when you hear it. I was driving on the freeway with a bikini top and windows down and it is audible when passing on the freeway. While maintaining speed, I don't notice a change in sound from stock.
MPG did change..... more than expected. I know there are a lot of people on this site that only got 1-2 MPG difference, but I did better than that. I went from 14.5 MPG average (read from dash) to 18.2 MPG. Seriously, I did not expect this at all. I am doing the same driving route that I always take and not slamming the pedal down to hear the engine roar, but also not baby-ing it.
I can't say this is the best intake out there, but I do not regret the money spent. Also, I don't know if this will work much different on the 2007 - 2010, but it did help my 2011 a nice amount.
If anyone has questions about this intake, or anything about this review; you are more than welcome to PM. Stay safe out there.

That's about what I expected from an MPG gain, 1-2 maybe. But why I'm consistently geting in the 18s is weird. Did you disconnect your battery and let the car re-learn with the new intake? I did and that may be why I notice a bigger differnce.
Yeah I did. We likely have different boundary conditions (different mods, different driving methods, etc.).

I've been looking at this intake too. I have a question for those of you that have it..how easy is it to service the filter? I know some of the enclosed intakes have a lid that comes off. The banks doesn't look like the lid comes off so I was just wondering how big of a pain it would be to get at the filter.
