I did this upgrade on the weekend, seems to be much better and clearer sound. Also loosely packed the sound bar and sub enclosure with polyfill.

Question though, how much poly fill is optimal? I read somewhere that you don't want to over do it but I'm afraid I didn't do enough.

Just did this. I had the base system on a 2012 JKU sport and replaced all 4 speakers with the Boston acoustics. Sounds like a great factory system now as opposed to a bunch of cracking when the volume gets to 18.

I used about 1 pillow worth of poly-fil but didn't pack it too tight. May throw some more in the sound bar to see what the difference is, if any.

Overall took me about an hour and a half and was well worth the 130 bucks.

Thanks for the idea and info

This Mod was for replacing only the 6.5" speakers for an improvement to the base sound system, not the infinity. The tweeters haven't had any problems and base systems don't have a sub. The sound difference between the Boston's and the Infinity's is barely an improvement and most have deemed it not worth it.

Thanks man. It's been over 4 years since I did this mod and still haven't blown one. These speakers are amazing.

Hey Blade. I have a 2016 JKU. Not sure what jeep is now using. Do you have any info if this would be an upgrade for a 2016 with the 130 non-navigation HU?

Hey Blade...Glad to see you still here supporting and defending your original thread. I did this mod back in 2012 and tried to help support your post (see page 10-11) and it is still cranking. I'm upgrading my head unit and adding an amp this weekend...nothing major in terms of power but hope speakers hold up a little longer. Just wanted to drop you a note since you started all this for me

Reviving an old thread as I've had my eyes on this for years. Originally had a 2011 JK and now have a 2016 JKU. JKU's sound bar is different and wouldn't require any trimming to install this now right? (referencing the trimming of the speaker grill on this model vs OP's write up). Also has anything changed in the dash that would have install there be different? Thanks for the help!

Quadratec has some plug and play kits available now. They aren't as cheap of a solution as the OP, but I used their speakers on my 07's roll bar when I had it and was happy with the sound. I'm looking to swap out the speakers in my 2014 JKU right now. I had one blow out on me over the weekend.
