Is there any worry about warping the axle making the weld for the bracket?
I never got around to welding my relocation bracket on it's just bolted. Is there a technique/do I need to do a small amount at a time to avoid distortion the axle? Using a mig.

You should be stitch welding it to keep the heat even and giving it a chance to cool periodically.
