I'm thinking if you were to use the bolts that used for the shift boot ring mod, it might look even better. Not that this mod doesn't already look good, just something to think about.

Idea modification:
You may want to use a straight piece instead of an angled stock -- that way the screw heads won't scratch your phone. Or an angled piece with a bigger angle and flip it around.

Default better yet

I thought of this as well so when i was at work one day I looked around for one of those black plastic pieces (half sheet) that sits at the front of binders. I found one and the edges were molded. took it home and did a cardboard mock up of sliding it between the console and the flat surface under the emerg brake. There is the slighest of gaps and the thickness of the plastic slips right in. Well if you get the shape just right the plastic slips right in and stays there.

This might even be the cheapest mod yet......

Well crap kept rolling out when I put it down and I got pissed and said 'There's gotta be something I can do....It works really well and didn't cost anything. Today I'm working on suspending a rack in the back of the two door between roll bars to store stuff in. It's funny what you can find in your closets (organizer) that you can modify for teh jeep lol..
