Custom Summer Top for Unlimited
I really didn't like raising and lowering the soft-top and there was no way to cover things in the back when it was down. I wanted to install and leave the "Duster" on all the time and just add a "bikini" and "windjammer" on rainy, or really hot days. I couldn't find one to purchase for the Unlimited, but read on the forum where a few others had done something like this.
I took wrap-around Windjamer as sold for the two-door JK, a Safari Bikini, and Duster to my local upholstery shop, and he:
- Removed the "J" channel from the top and replaced the zipper at the bottom with it. (This give me a nice solid "water tight" seal all the way across)
- Added 1 1/2" to each side just behind the door surround to allow room for the seats to go back.
- Added 2" to the top and installed snaps to fasten the Windjammer to the roll bar.
- He then added two small "flaps" to the back corners of the "Safari Bikini" to cover the little openings, and installed snaps to hold these down.
I have had it out in the rain, and so far almost no leakage. I had a few drops come in where the header meets the windshield, but just added some weather-stripping and will see if that fixes things.
I have taken my soft-top to the basement for long-term storage, and plan to run this top set up until late fall when the hard-top comes out.
I love the fact that the two pieces will fold up and lay in the back, ready to be installed at a moments notice, but completely hidden.

Post up some pics of the mods you had added in and what your upholstery guy charged you for them. In the thread I started on it, I had planned to do exactly that towards the end of the summer, so knowing that someone else had everything added and it turned out well is good news.
looks good man - I've got a bikini and duster and have been thinking about the windjammer for the exact same reasons...I'm in Cincinnati too, can you tell me where you took it and how much they charged? Thanks for posting.
