Default Daystar hood latches

well I will see about getting some pic's up if there is any interest. I got the daystar hood latches to stop the hood buffetting. These were the hardest simple mod ever. First thing getting the lower hood latch mount off is a PITA, and takes some patients. Then if you dont have a table mounted vice, and a pair of vice grips, standby. Of course i didnt, so I cut the old rubber hood latch to get the the inner plactic pin that I was gonna gut with my dremel. Little did I know that the inside of the plactic pin, has a aluminum rod in the middle. So after cutting in I ended up having to crank of in with some pliars. After you get the plastci pin and aluminum rod out the rest is pretty simple. Except getting the lower hood latch mount back on. But after that its super easy, except for getting your hood closed. These things are super tight. which is good it will stop hood buffetting, i just hope they loosen up a little bit so I dont have to warm up and stretch out before opening and closing the hood.

They do work well and will loosen up slightly. Here is the easiest way to do it:

1. Remove grill. 6 plastic fasteners on top and then pop it out in 5 places along the bottom.

2. Remove each OEM latch.

3. Grab each end of the steel rod on the two plastic pieces with vice grips or pliers and twist until it snaps.

4. Take apart and put in new polyurethane piece using new fasteners.

5. Reinstall in reverse order.

Sorry no pics, but takes maybe 15 minutes.

You guys made it way too hard! Instructions are retarded!!! No unbolting anything. Just take plier cutters and cut factory rubber in half then cut threw the plastic/metal pin. Then you take daystars put in same way with new screws/bolts. Shouldn't take more than 2 minutes a side. It's cake

Everyone has cheap plier cutters in their tools...

Same here, just used two vice grips on either side and twisted until they popped. I had looked up install on here before I started and found a thread that said step 1, throw away instuctions...LOL

Great mod though...Been on my Jeep for 14 months and zero hood flutter.

Well now that I have done it, and I went ahead and cut the rubber latches any way, that is what I would have done if I have to do it all over again. I would not take the mount of the jeep, but ohh well lesson learned. Im a kinda by the book guy.
