Default Door Handle Mod

Okay here goes my 1st attempt at a mod write up. I got the idea from the MBRP 2009 Sema Jeep. I was looking at the pictures a noticed the holes in the door handle and figured I can do that. At first I tried to take the door handle off but there are way too many screws so I figured what the heck I will just drill them on the jeep. Do not foregt to do the tail gate handle also.

Materials

Spare piece of wood (Jig)
Drill
3/8 drill bit
Towel to protect door

Time 1 hour

Use the spare piece of wood to make a pattern that you like. I put my hole 1 inch apart and drilled 4 of them.

Jig:

Wood and towel to protect door and paint:

Finished product:

That's it nothing to it just need the courage to do it!

IMO, holes are too small.

Here's another thread to look at also..

Looks nice! Was there any plastic flashing (for lack of better word) that needed to be cleaned up after drilling?

I don't know if I would go too much bigger...that handle in the link that was posted looks like it might be structurally compromised with that large of holes.

I would definitely max out the drilled hole diameter, even if it means spacing them across the whole handle. Nice job though.

Yes there was a little but i just ran my finger across it and it came right off. The back side drilled out smooth so no need to worry about that.

middle hole 5/8" 2 outer holes 1/2"
[IMG][/IMG][IMG]

3" holes 1/2".

Caution: The left hole in this pic kinda opens up where the handle attaches to the door itself. If I did it again I would measure from the center of the circle behind the handle (where the factory color paint is pressed in for your fingers to fit.) then outward. I measured the handle itself. Still feel just as sturdy as before!!
