Drilled the side view mirrors!
I drilled mine in the exact spot shown in the pic. They only drained a little bit (about 30 secs). Did I use too small of a bit?
I've had my JK for about one month and there's been some snow and a tad bit of rain. But I park her in a garage. I washed her about 4 or 5 times.

Take one mirror off and look at it from the inside. It only takes a minute to take it off (2 torx bolts on the inside of the door. There is a rubber gasket running around the perimeter. The hole would be useless if you drilled through the gasket as no water would reach the hole. I drill just above the gasket. The second side I didn't take off, I just drilled about the same place. See photo at the beginning of the thread.
From the design/build work I've done at 3 D.C. plants and suppliers I can see this mirror assembly was designed by a commitee with "a failure to communicate".
The plastics guy did incorporate a limber/drain notch at the very bottom.
The foam gasket guy covered it up.
The body guy dislikes the 2 guys above and did covered his a_s by ensuring he didn't miss the standard drains at the bottom of all vehicle doors.
The anti corosion guy would have caught all this kwowing what he does about how saltspray from winter roads is the last thing you want in hidden areas such as DOORS....He was off work catching up on vacation time.
The ergonomics/usability guy didn't think 3" convex mirror inserts at the lower outboard corners of the main mirror would be needed because jeep owners never need to see their rear wheels.
The manager guy didn't notice all the above because his days are pretty much taken up with meetings. the bean counters-you know.
Anyhow. good catch Rubimon but I highly recommend everyone take OFF the mirrors to do the mod.
The guy on the doors-off build line installed my right side(pasenger's in N.A.) foam gasket folded over from about the 1 to 3 o'clock positions.Oh well, back to the parts counter for a new gasket.
Can't wait till they try to bill me for it!
You're the Mang for this one.

Mang? Is there a shot for that?
HERE'S ONE FOR THE BOOKS!
Service counter guy didn't send me over to parts guy for a new gasket.
Because I was there anyway for them to do the first L.O.F. and once over he said they'd remove the mirror , take a peek and probably just unfold said squashed- beyond -repair gasket and remount.
I said PARDON........... Don't even........
Well when I went back they decided to order a complete mirror assy. Cant get just the gasket.
When I gave him the heads up about the drainage problem/cause/cure,his face went pale and he started the old warranty shpeel.

Having seen these posts, I figured one day I'll see the need for this most essential mod....yesterday, after washing for the first time in weeks, sure enough the mirror trickle from behind the gasket was there...I decided to take the mirrors off to check out the back side, took all of about 30 seconds to do both. After referring to the official photo on page one, I drilled them both slowly, and I must say it is true that it is easier off the Jeep albeit not essential. Holey moley, it took all of about 10 seconds to drill both...thanks again Rubimon! I did notice the useless notch in the bottom of the mirror mount, filled up with gasket material...hmmm
