External CB Speaker In Rollbar Pad
Hello all, I just installed a small 3"x3" external CB speaker I picked up at radio shack. I know its smaller then most but it sounds great. And at $25 bucks it better!
1) I first got my placement about where I wanted it, the small size fit perfect in the corner of the rollbar just above the drivers head.
2) I unzipped and unvalcroed the roll bar cover at the corner to gain access to the foam corner piece inside. I then removed it by pulling down and out. Note there are two plastic dowels so be careful not to damage them.
3) Once the foam corner piece was out, I then got a good kitchen knife and sized up the speaker to the foam. I placed it in the very corner because that is where the most foam is. Once i marked where the speaker was going, and how much I needed to cut for a tight fit, I cut it out.
4) I then placed the speaker in the new cut out spot and dry fitted the foam back in.

5) I then placed then started running the cable down the roll bar inside the pad. I placed the foam back in place and finished running the cable to the carpet. From here is where you run to wherever you have your CB mounted. Mine is in the center console that's why I needed an external speaker.
6) I then slightly aimed the speaker down so its pointing a little down.

7) Next I zipped and attached the valcro back up just like it was and finshed running to my CB unit. Here is what it looks like all done. No speaker showing at ALL! And it does not have any sound loss through the padding.

If you can find that nice small speaker I highly recommend it, it sounds GREAT! For its size, and this way you don't have a big speaker on your dash somewhere.
OH ya and here is my CB in the center console. The lid shuts and locks even with the mic cable coming out of it. I have a cooltech dash mount that holds in in place when I'm on the trails. When Im not using it, It stores in the console.

Nice set-up. How did you mount the radio inside the console? I have the same radio and currently have it wired as a portable unit with a standard 12v power plug because I wanted it out of sight when not in use. Your set-up looks like a nice alternative.
I got some SICK double sided tape actually. I got in from a kit from Lexus I had. It has been holding nice and strong. I took off the right side cover off of the console enough to run the wires under the actually box inside. I then drilled a hole in the bottom of the box, big enough to get the coax cable in. Hooked it all up and taped it in.

I really like the idea of the speaker location. I was thinking of just a speaker in the hole for the hard top screw/nut thingy (I have a soft top). Wasn't able to find a good enough one, but now... THANKS
