Here's an alternate, low-profile location for mounting a fire extinguisher in 2-door Jeep. Pictured is a 2.5 lb Amerex Model B417T ($42).
After careful & thorough consideration, I started by applying masking tape to the carpet in order to properly mark, cut, and remove
the carpet from around the mounting bracket.

Once the carpet is cut, make sure to replace it exactly how it's supposed to be, then mark and center punch your holes.
This area has a nice access hole allowing you easily tighten bolts from both sides of the sheet metal.

Used were 4 stainless 10-32 bolts with Nylon lock nuts and washers, making for a very secure mount.

The carpet slides right over it making it unnecessary to take the mount off in order to remove/replace the carpet.![](http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll285/electrikladyland/Jeep/IMG_0248.jpg)
The finished product. As you can see it's well enough out of the way and will not interfere with the seat or main cargo area in the
back, nor will it be readily visible with the top off.
