I just installed mine today, it looks great. However mine does not sit totally flush, there is a small gap at the bottom, I think i bent the metal where the clip came out.

I just installed mine today however I'm not exactly 100% happy with the fit. The whole housing seems to be loose and I've confirmed that I have both the top and bottom clips all the way in.

A little disappointing for $90.

Man that's a bummer! Something must not be right. It should fit like a glove. Hope you figure it out

Great write-up and pics. Having already installed fuel door years back, this write up would have been very helpful. Directions were terrible.

I bought this and after reading this thread I was so dreading doing it. It had sat in the back seat for a week and a half.

But today at the car wash I got an itch. SO either I am crazy or they redesigned this part. (both possible)

I did mine in 5 minutes and thats including the taking off of the taillight I also installed my t wiring for trailer hitch while I was doing it. I did not have to do anything with silver screws. Everything was put together. I even looked for the silver screws in the hinge of the door somehow but I couldnt see any. (My part is stamped mopar and has jk-2dr on it) I Was careful popping the old one out. Maybe because I remembered to line up the top little groove (from reading here) but putting the new one on was no problem at all. I took the rubber seal off the old put on the new and just kinda stuck it down in there. Fits flush and works great!

1 minute of the 5 minutes was the minute I stood there thinking no that cant be it.... but it was.

Last year I ordered one of these for my 2011 from an online place that resells MOPAR stuff and it was completely separate. I had to install the hex bolts myself and torque them to 11 in-lbs (or something like that).

When I bought my 2012, I most definitely wanted one of these fuel doors to keep the weather out of the locking fuel cap (also part of the deal, but they have to be pinned at the dealer), so the dealer threw them in as part of the deal on the 2012, provided I install the parts myself (no big deal for me). When I got the filler door home and opened the box, I was surprised to see that it was completely assembled to include the hex bolts.

Also there was a little locating pin on the filler door frame that matched up to a tiny hole in the body that I would swear was NOT there on my 2011. That pin looked VERY fragile, too -- about the size of a sharpened pencil point and made of plastic.

I'm not sure what model of fuel door I got for my 2011, but the one that the dealer ordered for my 2012 is definitely different -- however I can't tell you what year the design was changed because I have no idea how old the one I ordered for my 2011 was. But based on my recollection of the 2011 install (and lack of hole on the body on the 2011), I would guess it's new for 2012.

(This may be fodder for a new thread, but as an aside, the design of the ignition-keyed hood lock is also slightly different as well -- it's only a 45-degree turn to open instead of the 90-degree turn that was on the one I installed on my 2011).

I was thinking about getting one of these fuel doors and found this thread. Here is a video of the installation: TeraFlex Product Highlight: Jeep JK Wrangler Fuel Door Install - YouTube

[QUOTE=HappyCurmudgeon;15796]I wanted it to keep the mud & ice out of that recessed hole.

Those are words to live by if I ever heard any, my friend!

The Jeep just looks more 'finished' with the fuel door IMHO.

Oh, I am getting the black one as well.

Mine doesn't stay tight either. I'm going to probably use some sort of weatherproof caulk to try and get it to stay in place. Anyone else have any ideas?
