I know everyone wants "total control", but with all the telltales, DTCs, check lights, dealer visibility, etc., etc, I don't see its worth. If you are in 4hi, BLD should be adequate to get you through. I drove in the snow last winter (unplowed roads) and didn't really need to lock at all. The BLD got me going just fine. Locking is more for rocks where a tire will leave the ground.

I, too, like the idea of being able to lock up anytime. I just don't think it's worth it in view of the level of computer control on the JK.

I posted this 9 months ago and totally forgot about it. I have NOT spliced up and screwed my warranty like so many others. This was just an idea that would have been cool back when I was waiting for my order from Chrysler. I dont recommend it and you dont need full control of lockers because its only necessary at low speeds and in severe terrain. The rest of the time your computer does the work for you. In snow the computer gives you the best control of any vehicle on the road. Our new jeeps have Anti roll mitigation, anti lock brakes, 4 wheel speed sensors to control slipping and terrain issues. Smartest Jeep ever designed. Period.

That is a very good point. I just learned about the BLD shortly before this post, and I didn't think about it when I came to this post. You are probably right. The BLD should be enough to get us through pretty much whatever without having 100% control of the lockers.
Although I will say IMO DC should have gave us full control of the lockers to start with. When I say full control I mean in 4hi and 4lo. That would be the only time I would use them. I mean only in 4lo is a crock. Not only that but the lockers only come on Rubicons and Rubicons have 4:1 low range. They definitely should have made the lockers usable in 4hi.

You may want to also review Bofer84's locker mod.

I don't want total control; I just want to be able to use my lockers in 4HI.

In our 600 acre OHV area there are numerous places where lockers in 4HI is the appropriate way to get up some of these hills. In 4LO you run out of momentum before reaching the top of the hill. And getting a long running start is not an option due to the whoop-de-doos!

I have a simple locker relay mod done so that i can use my lockers anytime and i love it. The computer throws no codes and i use them all the time, its the best mod ive done to my jeep by far and having lockers in 4hi has gotten me out of some sticky situations. I used the code to turn off all esp related stuff when i got the jeep, i guess i just prefer good mechanical lockers than brake trickey by the computers. Plus, a rear locker makes for great donuts
