Hood Latches!
My take on this mod...
I had wanted to do this for a long time, but never got around to it. Plus I had a set of Rampage locking latches so hood flutter wasn't an issue any longer. Being in the NE, all stainless was the only way to go, but the parts always ended up costing way more than I wanted to spend. Then I stumbled over a set of Race Grade fiberglass reinforced nylon rod ends with PTFE balls.. perfect! Crazy strong, light weight, black..

If you're reading this, you probably aren't interested in a set of Rampage locking latches, but mine are now in the For Sale forum...

I plasti dipped mine and they turned out great. My issue is the lower bolts I used are starting to rust. Wondering what others used for the lower bolts. Mine were black oxide but now are more burnt orange (rusty).
What happened to you was what I was afraid of or worse.... so before I started drilling out the pins I applied several strips of duct tape around the mounts to protect the surface. I would have to REALLY mess up to damage the surface.
Black oxide is not always effective as an anti-corrosion treatment. Depends on whether it was applied at high temperature (for protection) or cold temperature (cosmetic).
