Removing the spring did work for me at first and it greatly reduces the amount of lift. Like I can drive 80 instead of 60 now, but as mentioned it's not the end all be all fix on the hood lift. In heavy winds and when semi comes by me it stills lifts and I've known that it was the rubber straps on the latches that allow it to come up by stretching. I can't beleive I never thought of the zip tie fix. Glad I saw this thread......

I'll have to try that. I first glued in the tubing with no results, then removed my spring. It helped I thought but seems to be just as bad now. Driving on Hwy 380 today I thought it was coming off a couple of times. I finally got so po'd I called the dealer I bought it from. I kinda snapped and let go on the guy about the leaking top and hood. I'm supposed to go in Wed am. he was very reassuring about the top getting fixed but says he didn't know about the hood. We'll see.

You will not need to cut or move the zip-ties. All you are doing is preventing the stretch of the dog-bone shaped strap. Since you tightened it only after you have closed the latch it will open and close without any problems.

Just wanted to say, that I did the zip tie mod and for the first time all hood flap issues are gone. At high speeds, heavy winds and even when big trucks are coming at me. This is a great inexpensive mod. I did put the attachment point of the zip tie on the inside though for cosmetic benefits! Best of all, you don't have to remove them or worry when latching and unlatching your hood. Great mod idea!
