Default Inexpensive roof rack

I just finished installing a roof rack/cargo basket on my 2010 JKU and have not seen anything like it posted on this forum. I purchased the rack from Discount Ramps online at www.discountramps.com for $114.99+shipping and installed it directly on the hard top. I had to drill eight holes in the top and sealed them, at installation, with silocone rubber. I used the mounting hardware that came with the top, but installed it upside down from how it was intended to be used to mount the basket to the rails of an existing SUV rack. I used 14 Hillman H# 881328 rubber stoppers from Lowes to space the rack above the roof and give it some cushion. I used 8 of the stoppers with holes drilled through them with the rack mounting hardware. I then used the other 6 of the stoppers with just a hole in the top between the roof and the rack where the bolts holding the top and bottom of the rack together protruded from the bottom of the rack at the outside edges. Altogether the 14 stoppers between the roof and rack will support a lot of weight. The rack basket is 62.5" X 45" X 6.25" and will carry a lot of camping gear. I purchased a cargo net from Harbor Freight to hold everything in and am ready to go.

It'll probably crack the top if you put weight in it. The surface area of the mounting isn't spaced out enough... Hope it doesn't but *cheers* looks good

Actually the rack is mainly supported at the six places spaced around the frame of the rack and those supports are near the outside edges of the roof and no holes are drilled there. Also, they are cushioned mounts rather than rigid so I doubt they will crack the top. The eight rubber spacers at the mounting brackets, where the holes are drilled through the top, are where cracking could occur. However, they are cushioned also and won't be supporting much of the weight. I knew that rigid mounts could create that problem and is the reason I used the rubber stoppers instead of a solid spacer.
