Default Inside Roof Basket Project

OK Guys and Gals
I guess this is a try out. Not sure how long this will last, but I like it and it seems secure.
I wanted some place to put spare clothes, because on our hot summer days and I work on cars at work, I hate being all sweaty when I get in my car. I have a backpack that I keep with clothes but was looking at the space behind the back roll bar roof and said to myself, a basket can fit up there and wouldn’t be in the way of anything.
So this is what I came up with while at Home Dept

1 Basket 5” Deep in the shelf section $16

EZ Pass type locking velco strip. Need to cut slim for the basket and wider strip for the roof.

Cleaned the roof with alcohol and line it up- Once lined up Press real hard, then take basket off and press the strip on again

View from behind up close

Hidden view when standing a few feet back

View of the strips

Filled with my clothes- ALL CLEAN-

I suspect that when it gets good and warm that the sticky on the velcro will come loose, but not a bad idea for storage.

Thats what Im waiting for. But the EZ Pass velcro lock is super sticky. So I think it will last.

DBB once again you have come up with yet another great idea. I agree with Robar on the heat messing with the velcro. But we shall see. Great job.

According to 3M I shouldn't have to worry about it falling off in high heat =)

Nice

DBB888, It's been well over a year on this...could you give us an update on if the tape held up to the heat over time. Thanks!

It held up just fine. Still working but I now use it to hold shop towels/Rags

Instead of 3 strips on each side I redid it and its a full strip with no gaps

Great idea, but I wouldn't store a dozen eggs up there,...

I'm curious... why go through all that trouble to store some extra clothes/rags in a basket taped to the inside of your roof? Wouldn't a bag or something tossed in the back work better? The basket looks kinda ghetto if you ask me, but then if you're happy, that's all that matters....

Default Another twist...

I think an elastic 'cargo net' (looks like a spider web) would do an equivalent job spreading out against the inside of the hard top. I've been fixated on these 3M 'peel-n-stick' hooks. They come in a wide range of colors and sizes, but they would certainly stick to the inside of the hard top roof. Attach the elastic cargo net to these and they'd hold all kinds of stuff up against the roof.

May need to purchase a motorcycle-sized (small) cargo net to get the right size.
