This is getting confusing Im trying to figure out which oil grade i should use. I have dana 44's with e-lockers. The manual says 80W90 or 75W140 for towing, and mentions an additive but i didnt understand when it should be used. The manual is just unclear. I called the dealership, and obviously the guy didnt know either. I see some of you guys using 75W90, any specific reasons?
So my understanding so far is I need 80W90, synthetic or not? additive or not?
thanx for you input

The additive is for limited slip differentials, not e-lockers.

I changed mine for the 1st time on Saturday (2010 Sport Unlimited w/ 15K miles). The orginal oil in the rear dif was jet black? Is that normal for the 1st 15k miles?

OK guys dumb question here: I just have a plain ol unlimited X. What fluid should I be using? Mainly just highway driving. 3:73 gears. Going to tackle this project this weekend. Thanks and don't hammer me too hard with the question. I just want to hear from the experts.

Thanks for the writeup. When I saw this, I choked a bit as the dealership charged me 200 dollars to do this. They told me it was 'special' gear oil. What a scam!!

In the write-up it states to add 1.375 quarts if you drained the front diff using the drain plug and 2 quarts if you removed the cover and did a thorough drain and replaced the cover with a SOLID cover. How much fluid is required if you do a thorough drain on the rear and replace with a SOLID cover?
